The parts are glued together using a glue web. Glue web is sold in rolls, at a price approximately equal to two loaves of bread. When you buy such a roll, it will last you a very long time. for a long time. Previously, when sewing in the Soviet Union, no expense was spared on secret hemming and stitching machines. The web performs the same function as secret machines, it fastens the edges, only not with threads, but with glue, it is not as high quality, because there is no thread stitch, but it is cheaper.

Of course, instead of a cobweb or a secret machine, you can also lay a simple shuttle stitch an ordinary car. But according to the model, sometimes the stitching is not planned on the front side of the product, and the two parts must still be fastened together or the edge must be processed. And if nothing is done in these places, the product will be poorly made or the edge will not be processed at all.

Usually they glue together with cobwebs:

upper and lower collar;

upper and lower cuff;

bottom of trousers;

they glue the side and the edging together so that they do not dangle, since the side and the edging must be connected with a stitch, but often according to the model there is no need for a stitch, and there are no hidden machines, so a web helps here.

I strongly recommend using web only in those items that you will not wash often, for example, outerwear (except trousers). I highly recommend not gluing the edge of your trousers, because after three washes your glued edge will fall off, “don’t go to your grandmother’s”, it’s been tested.

There are two types of adhesive web available:

a) just a glue web without paper (Fig. 1);

b) dry glue-web on paper (Fig. 2).

I always take it on paper, since it’s very difficult to just lay out the web and make it stick in the right place. Just gossamer glue is dry glue, which was made in the form of a 1-2cm strip and rolled into a roll.

This web is very reminiscent of a real spider web.

But I love the web on paper (Fig. 2). How is it made? Paper strip 1-2 cm wide, rolled into a roll, dry glue is applied to it in diamond shapes.

By the way, if you need a web without paper, then after unscrewing the glue on the paper, simply separate the glue and the paper, so you will just get a web without paper. Therefore, there is no point in taking 2 rolls (with or without paper), it is better to take the web on paper, and if you wish, you can detach the paper, but usually this is not required.

Adhesive web gluing technology?

1. Apply the web with glue to the wrong side of the part and simply iron the web paper on top. Dry glue melts under the influence of heat and sticks the paper and glue to the fabric. We use the iron to reach the place where we want to finish gluing, and then simply tear off the web. If it doesn’t stick, you can spray it with water from a spray bottle on top, and then iron it again.

2. Then we peel off the paper from the glued web, only the paper, do not peel it off along with the glue! On the back of the fabric we have a glued strip of glue in the form of diamonds, exactly in the place where we wanted it.

3. We put the part we want to glue on top, place the part with the wrong side directly on the glue, the right side of the fabric is on top, and iron it. The glue melts between the two fabrics under the influence of temperature and sticks them together. If it doesn’t stick, we can, again, sprinkle water from a spray bottle on top, and then iron it again.

I described the standard situation of how to glue the back to back, but in some situations you may have to glue the face to the face of the fabric or the back to the face, but this happens in very rare cases. The gluing principle is the same.

That's why I like the web on paper, you put the glue exactly where you want it, unlike just the web glue, which can move, especially difficult to do if you need to put the web into a ready-made collar and glue the lower part to the top.

By the way, I heard that this glue is just a thin layer of polyethylene, I don’t know if this is true. Here is such parsley with glue webs.

All trousers, including suit trousers, women's or men's, are sewn according to certain height standards. A person develops according to the laws of nature and can fall short of standards or outgrow them. If a woman is 173 cm tall, then trousers with a length of 170 will be short, and trousers with a length of 176 will be long. There is only one way out - take a model with long legs and hem them.

You can shorten the product in several ways:

The last method is convenient because it can be used by everyone: both those who are comfortable with a sewing machine and those who do not know how to sew. This is done easily and quickly, you only need a piece of adhesive fabric. At the same time, the seams will not be visible on the front side of the trousers - after all, they simply do not exist. If necessary, the length of the pants can be changed, spending very little time on it.

What is this sticky tape called?

The industry produces different types of woven and non-woven materials with one or two sides, on which glue is applied in a special way. A special tape is used to connect parts (for example, the lower and upper collars, shirt cuffs, the side and hem of a jacket), and secure the bottom of the product (in a back-to-back manner). It has a translucent structure. This is probably why it was called the cobweb. The base is non-woven material with double-sided application of adhesive.

Classification of adhesive tapes: which one to choose?

The web varies in width (from 5 mm to 70 mm for different types fabrics and applications) and density (may be slightly denser or less often - from 0.17 to 0.25 mm thick). This is a meter material, it is sold in rolls and in packaged bags of 3–5 meters. The store will measure out the required amount, which is usually calculated as follows:

Advice. If you buy a tape a few centimeters longer than the one you calculated, then use a small piece to test the technology on unnecessary fabric. By starting to work directly with the product, you can avoid mistakes and miscalculations.

Adhesive tape for folding the bottom is available in two types:

  • cobweb without paper;
  • spider web with a paper base.

How to glue a “cobweb”?

The adhesive composition, applied to the tape on both sides and placed between the fabrics, is melted by the iron during the ironing process. The two wrong parts of the product are connected to each other, gluing to the tape on both sides. This is not difficult to do. The tape is simply inserted into the fabric pocket, which is formed by the wrong surfaces when hemming the bottom of the trouser leg, and ironed. The exposure temperature must be high enough. Only under this condition does the web melt. If something does not work out and gluing does not occur, you should spray the tape with water and repeat ironing.

This is really the most quick way bending of products. It has many advantages, but this technology also has a disadvantage - the tape will only last a few washes. Having weighed all the pros and cons, we get to work if the positive aspects outweigh the scales.

What to use? Preparation

For work, prepare the following tools:

How to hem trousers using adhesive tape?

Let's try to glue a mesh web with paper. It will be easy to work with her. The technology itself is simple:

The web is not used for hemming the bottom of both very thin and very dense fabrics, as well as knitted and brushed fabrics.

She will stretch thin material, she will stretch herself with knitted material, but she won’t even be able to join the rest.

Preparing the trouser legs

Before gluing the tape, the trousers need to be shortened. This process is demonstrated step by step:

How to glue correctly? Step by step

  1. Now that the trousers are prepared, you should start gluing the tape. This can also be explained step by step:
  2. prepared shortened trousers are tucked to the desired height (all work is carried out along the intended lines);
  3. the required amount of web is measured with a margin of 0.5 - 1 cm for overlap at the joint;
  4. a tape is placed inside the resulting fold;
  5. iron with a well-heated iron through cotton fabric;

The operation is repeated for the second leg.

Now the trousers are neatly hemmed and ready for everyday wear. In order not to spoil the item with glue, the tape should be hidden between the fabric, and there was still 2-3 mm left until the end of the cut.

What should you pay attention to? It is very important to correctly determine the length of the future product. U men's trousers the middle of the heel will serve as a guide - it is to this point that the ends of the trousers of a standing person should reach. WITH women's trousers

a little more complicated: Cobweb is used for products that do not need frequent washing and do not come into contact with water . Do not use high temperatures when machine washing. Even with delicate care

Adhesive tape doesn't last long. The option of repeating the operations to bend the bottom is not excluded.

How to remove glue residue?

  • It happens that the tape is not glued as required by the technology. As a result, traces of glue become visible and urgent correction of defects is required. Those who have encountered this problem in practice advise the following:
  • Having removed the hem in the above manner, place a piece of another material (preferably cotton) between the top and bottom layers of fabric and iron it with an iron, turning on the steam function. The cloth underneath will absorb any remaining glue. It may not be possible to get rid of the composition completely the first time. The operation will need to be repeated;
  • ordinary alcohol acts as a corrector: apply it to a cotton swab, rub the area with traces of adhesive, and the material will be easily cleaned.

Housewife tricks

Hot-melt adhesive tapes - helpers in sewing!

IN modern world Many technological materials are used to create high-quality clothing! Their use helps to completely eliminate the deformation of products, which, in turn, improves the quality of the clothes you produce.

But if you are far from a sewing professional, then we will tell you a few secrets and prove that hot-melt adhesive tape should be in every housewife’s home!

Let's consider these types of adhesive materials:

Thread stitching adhesive tape

One of the types of technological tapes is thread-stitching tape. It is made on a calico base or from thread-stitched interlining (more elastic and easier to fit along rounded lines).

The main use of such tape is to strengthen the armhole, neckline and protect the seams from stretch marks. It is best used for rounded parts, as well as to strengthen the bend line of a lapel, edge, etc.

Thread stitching tape on the bias is reinforced with thread or soutache

Thread stitching braid (edge) can be cut obliquely, reinforced with stitching (thread) or soutache.

Such tapes are more durable, therefore they are suitable for edging a sleeve or a cut, things will be more durable, the tape not only completely improves the appearance of the product, but several times facilitates the production process itself, helping to make the processing of edges and seams invisible.

For each type of clothing, you can choose the optimally convenient and correct thread stitching tape in width (10,15,20,25,30 mm) and color (black, white, gray). The use of adhesive tape guarantees not only the preservation of the shape of the clothing during further wear, but also after washing.

Cobwebhot-melt adhesive

To glue parts of clothing, secure appliqués, loops or seams, and reinforce edges - transparent, light and thin material. Exactly
Gossamer is used to process the bottom of a product (for example, the hem of trousers or skirts), but it is not suitable for all fabrics.

Using a web, you can attach any patch to the outside of a product or use it at home for minor clothing repairs.

Externally, the web is a discreet, almost transparent strip from 0.5 to 5 cm wide, or a roll 90 cm wide - used for attaching large appliqués on T-shirts, blouses, vests, as well as in needlework for various types panels, bedspreads, tablecloths, napkins and much more.

There are two types of adhesive tape: regular and paper-based.. A paper-based web, thanks to its mesh texture, makes the shape of things more plastic. That's why it's convenient to use for knitted fabrics, because... Due to the mesh, the web stretches along with the fabric.

The adhesive tape is glued with a hot iron. The web is placed between two fabrics and the hem is ironed along the wrong side. Make sure that the iron does not touch the web, otherwise it will melt and leave a trace of glue on the sole of the iron.

Remember:

  • adhesive tape should not be used on fabrics with a thin structure, as it can impart rigidity;
  • jeans and thick fabrics It’s better to hem it, because Over time, the web may come off;
  • adhesive is not suitable for expensive products, because may damage the fabric. In this case, it is better to process the bottom using hand hemming stitches;
  • using glue web do not place it directly on the fold. Place it above the fold line, leaving a margin of about 0.5 cm to the edge;
  • wash items where adhesive has been used at a water temperature of up to 60 °C or use dry cleaning services;
  • to glue fabric elements, use a tape about 10mm wide, since after processing the material will be more rigid and dense. If you have a wide ribbon, he will cut it into thinner strips for your convenience.

Grid on paper

Another type of hot-melt adhesive tape - mesh on paper - is a strip of some width where the glue is applied in the form of a mesh on the paper. This mesh is used in the same way as cobwebs, but has a difference in ease of use due to the paper. After heat treatment with an iron or press, the paper is easily removed.

To prevent stretching and fraying of the fabric, strengthen a specific part of the garment along the edge of the edge or simplify sewing work at certain stages they use a grid on paper.

The mesh structure allows you to maintain elasticity, and on knitted fabrics it allows you to easily stretch without weighing down the material. It is also well used on lighter fabrics, in processing the bottom edges, it easily fastens small parts of clothing together by attaching them to the main product, and if it is necessary to stiffen the fabric, this can also be done using a grid on paper.

Useful tips!!! How to remove glue residue from fabric?

It happens that you glued the web incorrectly. What to do then? There are several secrets that will help you:

Secret 1. Using steam from the iron, without touching the fabric, steam the area where the cobweb is glued. After this, try to separate the layers of glued fabrics and carefully peel the web from the product.

Secret 2. Between two layers of fabric, where there is glue residue, insert an unnecessary piece of material - iron with an iron with a steam function. The remaining adhesive should transfer to the underlying fabric. It may not be possible to remove all glue residue immediately - it depends on the texture of the fabric.

Secret 3. You can easily get rid of glue using regular alcohol. You just have to rub it on the place on the fabric where there was a cobweb or mesh and the fabric will be cleaned of glue.

You can buy all types of adhesive materials and many other products in our store!

Wholesale or from one roll in our online store is very simple, go to the product page and place an order.

Most likely, everyone in their life has encountered a situation when they urgently need to turn up the edges of their trousers, thereby making them shorter, or hem the bottom of a skirt that has turned away because the stitching has unraveled. But not everyone has sewing skills, and not everyone in the house has an arsenal of sewing machine. Since progress does not stand still, a cobweb for repairing clothes comes to the aid of housewives. How to use such a product, what exactly it is intended for - we will talk about this in this article.

What is a cobweb?

It consists of thin glue fibers intertwined with each other (that’s why it’s called that), which are produced in the form of a roll of various widths, ranging from the narrowest half a centimeter wide to a tape 5 centimeters wide.

Larger format rolls are also produced - 90 centimeters wide. This format is most often used in needlework, for gluing various large appliqués and stripes; it is much less common on sale.

Important! As for the narrow web, it can be purchased at any sewing store or department; it is also found in haberdashery. It is sold in rolls, the price is usually indicated per linear meter, which makes it very affordable.

Where is gossamer used?

A web for clothes should be in every housewife's arsenal, because it can help out in many situations. Let's look at the options when we can use it:

  • when you need to hem the bottom of a product, but there is no way to hem it;
  • if there is a cut on the fabric, and you need to discreetly glue it from the inside so that the halves do not separate;
  • if necessary, glue a small patch or applique to clothing;
  • when it is necessary to seal the side of the product;
  • if you need to secure certain elements of fabric in clothing.

What types of adhesive tape are there?

Adhesive tape comes simply in a roll; you can also find tape glued to a paper backing. The second option is slightly different in appearance - more like a diamond-shaped mesh, which is more elastic. It stretches in different directions along with the material on which it is glued.

Repairing clothes using adhesive tape

Let's look at the technology of repairing clothes using adhesive tape and cobwebs. We cut the required length of adhesive tape from the roll and place it between the fabrics that need to be glued, and press the product with a hot iron for several seconds. The glue melts and the fabrics stick together. Everything is very fast, simple, takes a minimum of time and money.

Important! If we need to trim the bottom of the product and seal its edge, then it is best to use paper-based tape.

Let's consider the option of gluing tape to trousers instead of hemming. The operating algorithm is as follows:

  • From the wrong side, almost along the edge of the product, stepping back a couple of millimeters, we apply the tape with the adhesive backing to the fabric, paper side up.
  • We run a heated iron over the clothes, directly over the paper base.

Important! It is better to do this gradually so that the tape lies evenly.

  • When the tape is glued along its entire length, remove the paper backing.
  • We make an even hem so that it overlaps the adhesive (adhesive) tape by a couple of millimeters, again, to avoid the glue protruding beyond the hem and to make the product more accurate.
  • Iron the hem using an iron.

The trousers are ready to use!

  • Remember that adhesive tape will perform its function best on items that are minimally exposed to washing. Take this nuance into account before repairing clothing with cobwebs. Do not use it on items that you wash very often or that have constant contact with water. When washing such items, avoid high temperatures, otherwise the gluing effect will be reduced to zero.
  • It is better not to use tape on very thin and flowing fabrics, as it thickens the material, and this may look unsightly. The same goes for expensive items and materials. In this situation, it is better to entrust such work to a professional, and replace repairs using adhesive tape with manual repairs using a hidden seam or a beautiful stitch.

How to seal a cut on clothing using cobwebs?

If we need to repair a rip in a fabric, such as a jacket, glue on a patch, secure a piece of fabric to hold it in place without the seam showing, then use adhesive web on a roll, no paper. In this situation, the technology is much simpler, but requires more care, since the adhesive base will immediately connect all the parts - it will no longer be possible to align them.

In the case of a cut on clothing, we put the cobweb inside the product under the cut, align the halves, and place it on top thin fabric to protect our clothes from the temperature of the iron, and, without moving anything, carefully iron from above. Now the cut is invisible.

Important! Keep in mind that, as a rule, fabrics that are susceptible to cuts are quite thin, and not all are able to withstand the temperature of an iron. Therefore, it is always better to test on the inside of the product.

How to remove cobwebs?

It happens that adhesive base hits the iron. In this situation, a piece of cloth soaked in alcohol will help you - it perfectly removes glue from surfaces.

This secret will also help you if you need to peel off a poorly glued job, or, for example, remove cobwebs from your trousers. To begin, run an iron over the gluing area, detach the halves of the fabric when the glue heats up and becomes pliable. Remove any remaining glue with gauze soaked in alcohol.

The need to glue fabric to fabric often arises in home crafts, everyday life, the textile and furniture industries. Fabric glue is used for this. How to use such glue to create a long-lasting connection without defects?

How to glue fabric to fabric, types of adhesives

The fabric has a flexible structure, is often deformed and is subject to washing. The connection between fabrics and fabrics must be so strong as to withstand different types of loads - tension and compression, exposure to hot air and chemicals, contact with water and ultraviolet radiation.

The basis of fabric glue is usually one of the following substances:

  • polyurethane - glues everything together;
  • neoprene - high strength and temperature resistance;
  • butadiene styrene - professional strength, industrial use;
  • polyvinyl acetate - universal textile adhesive;
  • nitrocellulose - necessary for gluing fabric to leather;
  • polyvinyl chloride - ensures gluing of fabric to wood, plastic, leather, ceramics, glass, rubber and other types of textiles;
  • rubber - allows you to achieve maximum elasticity of the seam.

When selecting glue, many factors should be taken into account: the type and quality of the surfaces to be glued, what is intended to be glued, and in what conditions they will be used finished goods what mechanical loads they will be subjected to. Do you need transparency and water resistance of the adhesive composition, or do you need elasticity and flexibility of the resulting seam?

Types of adhesives:

Widely used by professional seamstresses, it is commercially available in powder or solid form. The glue powder must be diluted and the solid glue sticks melted using special glue guns. Advantages - strength of bonding of materials to each other, ease of use, adhesion without marks or stains, non-toxicity and safety.

Waterproof fabric glue. This is usually a polyurethane-based contact adhesive that is suitable for working with textiles, leather, wood, rubber and rubberized materials. It is transparent and does not flow, sets quickly and does not stain, and is not afraid of light, temperature and moisture. It has high adhesive ability to hold different types of materials together. Used on dense and highly stretchable, transparent and natural fabrics.

Professional textile adhesives. They contain styrene butadiene, which ensures reliable and strong adhesion of fabrics to each other and to other materials - cork, wood, plywood, plastic, foam rubber, foam, leather, and so on. It is expensive, it is used on a production scale - in studios, in textile and furniture production.

Universal adhesives. Such products are produced in small tubes with dispensers; they are necessary for quickly repairing clothing, accessories, bags, or quickly gluing small pieces of fabric together. It is characterized by economical distribution, allows for adjustments and is easy to use; after drying, it becomes transparent and hard, resistant to water, chemicals and temperature changes.

This is a worthy alternative to glue. This fabric is widely used in industrial and domestic settings. It is very simple, as it is glued by ironing it with a hot iron. As a lining, it weighs and compacts the material, providing the textile product with shape and rigidity. It is indispensable when sewing outerwear, for finishing the edges of skirts and trousers, it is placed under collars, fronts and cuffs.

Liquid thread. Such compositions are necessary in needlework when combining materials to glue appliqués, patches, decor, fringe and rhinestones onto fabric. The glue is applied accurately and evenly, allows you to firmly fasten surfaces without the need to use a press, dries in seconds and does not damage the material. Suitable for use on felt, felt and when working with coconut threads.

Transparent and applied in a thin layer, does not flow or stain, provides the possibility of repeated use, and is stored for a long time. Spray adhesive is used for holding patterns, basting, and sewing in zippers. Before use, shake the can and spread the glue from a distance of 20-30 cm from the surface.

Advice! To remove excess glue from fabric, you can use acetone, alcohol or refined gasoline. PVA glue is removed when washing the product, rubber is squeezed out from under the surfaces to be glued, after which it can be pryed off and removed.

The easiest way to remove glue is with a special cleaner, placing the fabric to be cleaned on a light textile substrate with good absorbency. However, the harsh chemicals in the cleaner may leave stains or wear out the material.

Fabric glue - technique of use

The quality of adhesion largely depends on the correct use of the adhesive. It is necessary to first study the method of its use, familiarize yourself with the precautions and operating conditions.

Adhesives containing rubber usually require double-sided coating and a long drying time. If you need to glue canvases of a large area, they are usually pressed with a weight and left for several hours.

When working with perchlorovinyl adhesive materials, they are applied in two layers. The first is distributed evenly and left for several minutes to harden, then the second layer is distributed on top and only after that the necessary elements are fastened.

Nitrocellulose adhesives are distributed in one layer and glued immediately; only large products are placed under the load.

PVA glue is used to treat both surfaces to be bonded. To increase strength, it is better to use a load. A popular expert glue is “PVA construction”.

Silicone glue in the rod is applied using a special heating gun, which allows you to distribute the composition with a thread or pointwise. This glue is liquid, but does not flow, hardens quickly, but for some time allows you to adjust the position of the parts.

When fastening dense fabrics, a durable and waterproof composition is required, which is distributed over the previously degreased surface of the fabric. For degreasing, acetone or gasoline is used, the glue is usually applied in two layers, the connection is fixed for a long time. Items may only be used within 24 hours.

To achieve a high-quality and reliable result, each adhesive requires the creation of certain conditions. General requirements include application only to a clean surface and sufficient time for complete polymerization of the composition.

How to choose fabric glue

Which glue to choose for fabric? The specific goals of the work determine the choice of a specific composition.

For quick and high-quality repair of ruptures and cuts, it is convenient to use second and universal adhesives. They harden instantly, absorb without excess and leave no traces. The adhesive seam remains resistant to washing and ironing, deformation and wear.

To repair shoes, outerwear or jeans, a universal composition that is transparent and dries instantly is also suitable.

Secunda glue is suitable for gluing natural fabrics: cotton, linen, silk, wool, as well as stretchy knitted and thin synthetic materials.

Silicone glue in a rod is in demand in home crafts. It allows you to attach rhinestones, stones, beads, pearls and appliqués to fabric; it can be used to attach accessories to clothes - buttons, jewelry and decor.

Aerosol fabric adhesives allow you to apply the substance to the surface in the thinnest layer, avoiding deformation and marks. Its adhesiveness lasts for a long time, allowing the part to be attached and removed several times.

Synthetic adhesives based different types rubbers have a common drawback - a long drying time and the need for fixation. This can be inconvenient, and the result is not long-lasting enough.

Main selection criteria:

  1. Can be used for fabric.
  2. Safety, non-toxic and high quality adhesive composition.
  3. Resistant to mechanical impact: creases, deformation, stretching.
  4. Inertness to various chemicals: washing powders, bleaches, stain removers.
  5. Color compatibility - better transparency.
  6. Resistance to temperature: increase and decrease, changes.
  7. Water resistance: the glue should not be destroyed by washing, sweat, or humid weather.
  8. Elastic and durable seam that does not disrupt the structure of the bonded material.

Adhesives for fabrics with different compositions and in different forms, useful for people in everyday life and handicrafts, indispensable for industrial and private use: making furniture, clothing, shoes, accessories, for ateliers, sewing curtains and repair shops. To choose the right glue and achieve a good result, you need to take into account its purpose, composition and main characteristics.
