The lesson is based on my daughter Varya's hat. She is 2 years 3 months old. But, knowing the technique, you can knit this classic hat to any size.
COCO yarn 100% cotton. At 50g. 240 m. Green yarn took about 35 grams. And on a flower - a little milky. Hooks # 2.25 and # 1.75.

Before you start knitting, you need to take measurements from your head:
1.
Girth (circumference) of the head... We draw a measuring tape horizontally above the eyebrows and along the level of the most protruding part of the back of the head. In our case, the head circumference is 48 centimeters.
2.
Depth. If we want a hat in depth to the beginning of the eyebrows, then we draw the tape from the middle of the lobe of one ear to the middle of the lobe of the other ear through the center of the crown. In our case, this measure is 36 centimeters.
If we need a hat to the middle of the eyebrows, then we measure the depth not from the middle, but from the end of the lobe of one ear through the center of the crown to the end of the lobe of the other ear.
Crochet hats are most often knitted:
1.From the bottom to the top of the head. The advantage of this method is that if we take a pattern of a straight cloth for a hat, then it will not be turned upside down, but will remain as it is, since the patterns of a straight cloth are read from bottom to top, and the hat is knitted from bottom to top. This is where the pros end. Cons: it is necessary to knit a pattern in order to calculate the loops at the beginning of knitting. You can, of course, make a “tricky move”: dial a chain of air loops, wrap it around your head and knit according to this “calculation”, but then the evening will be wasted, because we are unlikely to get into the size. Only a full-fledged sample and calculation for it! Another drawback of knitting from below is that we will not get such a perfect crown, unlike knitting a hat on top. Although this does not apply to all patterns.
2. From the top of the head - from top to bottom. This method is chosen, probably, in 90% of cases, primarily because it gives the perfect crown, and allows you to easily adjust the size while knitting. I myself crochet hats from the top of my head, I recommend the same to you.
Today we will knit a hat with double crochets.
How to knit the crown of a hat?
The top of the hat is knitted in a circle. The main part and the rim is a pipe. There are certain rules for forming a circle.
For a circle of double crochets, they are as follows:
1 row - we knit 12 CCH;
2 row - 24 CCHs: 2 CCHs are knitted in each column of the previous row;
3 row - 36 CCHs: 2 CCHs are knitted through the column;
4 row - 48 CCHs: 2 CCHs are knitted through two columns;
5 row - 60 CCHs: 2 CCHs are knitted through three columns;
6 row - 72 CCH: 2CCH are knitted through four columns, etc.
Thus, to increase the diameter of the circle, 12 columns are evenly added in each row, knitting two columns in one loop in each wedge. In total, there are 12 wedges in such a circle of double crochets. Options for the distribution of increments:
Choose the method of increase that you like best. I use the second method - I make an increase at the end of each wedge.
If we tie 13 wedges instead of 12, then before switching to the pipe, the circle will look neat:
But, when we move on to knitting the main part, it turns out that the top of the head is folded, which makes it look not quite neat, and in order to give the hat a neat look, we will have to work properly with an iron and steam:
The diameter of the circle to which you need to knit the crown is calculated by the formula:
Divide the head circumference by 3.14 (pi).
48 cm: 3.14 = 15.3 cm. This is also the diameter of the widest part of the cap.
In order for the cap to fit the head nicely, the transition from the crown to the main part of the cap must be made smooth. To do this, subtract 3 -3.5 cm from the calculated diameter of the circle.
After that, we knit these remaining 3-3.5 cm to the desired diameter with increments through a row: a row with increments, a row without increments, a row with increments, a row without increments, a row with increments. As a result, the crown will round out gradually and neatly, like a dome.
Some beginners have a problem - noticeable gaps in the places where the row closes.
The reason is that the hook, when knitting the connecting loop, is inserted between the lifting loops and the post that follows them. In the photo above it is marked with a black circle. The hook must be inserted into the third air loop under its upper and middle threads (blue arrow in the photo), and you need to knit the connecting loop tight. Then there will be no gaps.
Having tied the top of the head, we go to the main part of the cap, which we will knit with a pipe.

Is there another way to solve the seam problem without resorting to spiral knitting?
There is such a way.
We start the row with two lifting air loops and at the same point where the airflows are knitted, we knit a double crochet. We knit a row. Tied up. We close it not in the second lifting air loop, as we would have done before, closing the row by tying a connecting post into the upper lifting VP, but into the loop of the base of the next double crochet behind them. In the photo, the place where the hook is injected when the row is closed is shown with a red triangle. Thus, the row will move slightly to the left.
Even this method will not give a completely perfect seam, and it will still be mowed a little. But after processing with an iron with steam and a little leveling with handles, we will get a good result.
The diameter of the cap should be: measurement of the circumference of the head: 3.14 = 15.3 cm.
The rim of the cap in our example is tight-fitting, so I took the hook a full length less. Tied in a spiral with single crochet. The height of the rim is determined at will: 2-4 cm. The last row was knitted like this: a single crochet, 2 air loops, we skip the loop of the column below, and a single crochet into the next loop. It turned out to be an edge in the form of a small picot.
How to determine without trying on whether the depth of the cap is accurately connected?
To do this, fold the hat in half and measure it from crown to edge. You should get a number: a measure from the lobe of one ear to the lobe of the other ear, divided in half. In our case, 36 cm: 2 = 18 cm.

You can make the fields, then you get a hat or panama hat. The main part of the headdress is called the crown. It can be tied separately from the bottom, which crowns the cap at the top of the head.
In order to knit a hat, you need to find out the volume of the head and the height of the hat, and for this, take measurements. Measurements need to be taken correctly - we need to know the length of the desired product from the forehead to the back of the head and from ear to ear. Also measure the circumference of the head at the widest point (find a prominent point on the back of the head), as well as the circumference where the edge of the cap will pass (measure directly over the ears, if it will cover them).

We knit a sample to determine the knitting density. It is advisable to wash it according to the recommendations on the label, then dry it without stretching. Then, on a slightly stretched specimen horizontally, we count the number of loops / columns, vertically, the number of scars (1 scar = 2 rows).
We make the calculation. The direction of knitting the cap is along the circumference of the head. For example, horizontally 5cm = 17 loops, which means that for a hat height of 22cm, the typesetting chain will be 75 loops, and vertically 5cm = 10 scars, which means 55cm (head circumference) will be 110 scars. Since the hat is knitted in sectors / wedges, it is necessary to distribute the resulting number of scars by sectors. I selected the ratio of 11 sectors of 10 scars = 110 scars.
Errors in determining the number of sectors.
The number of sectors can be decreased or increased. The more sectors there are, the easier it is to correct knitting if an error has crept into the preliminary calculations. It will be enough to knit or dissolve one or two sectors so that the hat fits around the circumference of the head.

Errors in determining the length of the dialing chain
At first, especially when working with unfamiliar yarn, errors occur in determining the length of the typesetting chain. If the typesetting chain is short, the height of the cap is insufficient. If the typesetting chain is long, the height, on the contrary, turns out to be excessive. What to do in such cases? YarnArt Crazy Color yarn (35% wool, 65% acrylic, 100g 260m). Hook 3.5mm.
I tied the sample and determined the density, about 5 cm - 13 loops. Stacked chain 78 VP (10 loops - decoration of the crown, 50 loops - hat, 18 loops - lapel) + 1vp rise. I didn't count the number of sectors beforehand. I will knit and try on.

The sector is five ribs, but the decreases are knitted only in four ribs. The last, 5th hem is knitted completely without any reductions (i.e., the entire row to the end), this will be the decoration of the crown.

So that there are no holes in the fabric on the mating line of the wedges, you need to insert the hook into the loop of the step and the back wall of the loop of the previous row and knit them together.

The wedge is knitted. In the last row of the wedge, there should be 78 loops as in the typesetting chain. You can remove the markers and mark the 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th stitches again.
Knit the rest of the wedges in the same way as the first.
Tie as many wedges as needed so that the hat fits around the girth of the head.

A correctly executed seam can only be identified by a small scar on one side. When the hat is on the head and the elastic band is stretched, this scar is very difficult to see.

In this post, I want to tell you how to crochet a baby hat for beginners and provide you with my first, step-by-step MK. Please do not judge strictly.
Since I do not have a lot of experience in knitting, but quite a bit, I spent many, many and very carefully digging for hours on the Internet, and looked at a bunch of pages for requests "how to crochet a hat", "crochet baby hat", "crochet hats " etc. In my step-by-step MK "Children's crochet hat for beginners" I will try to optimize and heap all my searches, and I hope that in a few days you will be able to pamper your child with a new, beautiful hat.
I crocheted my hat from the remnants of yarn, and it took me a little time - only 1 day, it would be faster, but the lion's share of my time is taken by a child.
So, let's begin. First, we need to decide and calculate the size of the baby's hat. In order not to burden you with long measurements and calculations, I offer you the already calculated dimensions in the picture:
First we need to tie the bottom. we knit it with single crochet columns in a spiral (I like this method most of all, since the seam is not visible). But there are other ways to crochet a hat, now I will show you the patterns.

But if you decide to knit in 3 ways, like me, that is, in a spiral, then let's start:
2. 2 sc in each loop (12)
3.1 sc, increase = repeat 6 times (18)
4.2 sc, increase = 6 times (24)
5.3 sc, increase = 6 times (30)
And so on, until we get a circle - the bottom of the size we need, in the process of knitting we measure with a centimeter or ruler. A few rows before the end of knitting, we knit the bottom along the row without increments - so that the transition is smoother. For example, my bottom was knitted up to 10 sbn, an increase - repeat 6 times. After 8 sc, an increase - 6 times I knitted a circle without increments, then I knitted 9 sc, an increase - 6 times and again a circle without increments. Then I knitted 10 sbn, an increase - 6 times and got a bottom-circle of the size I needed. I think everyone understands. I knitted a hat for a child for 1 year, with Yarnart Jeans in 1 thread, it took less than half a winding of blue and half a wind of black. I took the hook number 3.
Now we just knit in a spiral, without increments and decrements, to the depth we need. In my case, the depth of the hat is 15.5 cm. In order to measure it, you need to fold the hat and put a ruler / centimeter in the middle, from the highest place (crown) down. If you want to tie the hat with a crustacean step, then under-knit 0.5 cm to the desired depth, and if you want to do it like mine, I tied 1 row with a blue thread, and then knitted a crustacean step with the same thread - do not tie it to the desired depth 1-1 , 5 cm depending on the thickness of your thread. I tied the hat over the ears.

Crochet ears for the hat: we finished the hat, knitted the depth we need. We knit the last loop of the connecting post (CC), stretch and cut the thread if you want to make the ears of a different color. Now we attach a new thread (you can leave the one that was - do not break) if you have the ears of the same color.
Hat ears:
1.2.3 row 1 lifting loop, 14 sbn.
4, 5 row -1 lifting loop, decrease, 10 sbn, decrease
6 row - 1 lifting loop, 10 sbn
7,8,9 row - 1 lifting loop, decrease at the beginning of the row, sc, decrease at the end of the row. As a result, you will have 3 loops. We will thread the strings in them.
We also knit 2 eyelet. In my hat, the distance between the ears turned out to be 25 loops. I measured it like this - I put a hat on the child, and put the tied ear to his ear, then carefully took it off and folded it in half, marked the intended place of the second ear of the hat with pins, tried it on again and tied the second ear for the hat with a crochet.
