Craftswomen crochet hoods in different versions:

  • as a separate product;
  • continuation of the neck.

A detailed description helps beginning knitters figure out how to crochet a hood without making mistakes.

Types of hoods for crochet

Among the main models it is worth highlighting:

  • hood;
  • hood;
  • hood

The hood, knitted as a separate product, replaces a hat or scarf. Crocheted according to the pattern with different patterns and designs. When knitting from the neck, the manufacturing principle does not change, but it is necessary to correctly connect the elements.

Hood. It differs from the classic version by the presence of long ends, reminiscent of a scarf, which are wrapped around the neck. Traditionally, the bashlyk is made in a pointed form.

Hood. Initially it was considered a women's headdress. For models, crocheted characteristic details for connecting the lower ends of the product - ribbons, fasteners, a chain of air loops.

Knitting techniques

Let's look at a detailed master class on crocheting a hood using the example of a women's hood. Let's start with a simple pattern that a beginner can master knitting.

Hood as an independent product

To make a women's bonnet, we will need:

  1. Hook and yarn. The tool number is selected in accordance with the thickness of the thread.
  2. Select a pattern. Dense model It is better to tie it with columns, and for the hood-finishing they select an openwork pattern.
  3. Take measurements. For a knitted hood, record its depth and height. An adult and a children's hood are knitted using the same measurements. Depth is the distance from the tip of the nose to the middle of the head above the back of the head. Height is measured from the base of the neck to the crown.

Cast on a chain of air loops 50-60 cm long. Continue knitting in single crochets to a height of 25 cm (30-35 rows depending on the thickness of the yarn).

The resulting rectangle is folded in half and crocheted.

Separately, knit a chain 5-6 cm long and connect the ends of the rectangular fabric with it.

The lower part of the hood is tied together with a chain of air loops using single crochets. The height of the harness is no more than 7 cm. Each new row begins with a lift of 2 air. loops

This is the basis diagram for making the hood as a separate element. To link it together with the product, a different technology will be required.

Master class on knitting from the neck

For example, let’s take the option of designing a jacket for a child. If the boy is older, then the color is chosen in calm tones, and for the baby, the threads are brighter.

We count the number of loops that make up the neck of the product.

To make a hood, there are two ways - cast on the initial row of neck loops or knit a chain of air loops in the same quantity. For a comfortable fit, we will make a lapel. This will require increases along the edges of the row and in the middle. To accurately determine the middle of the row, fold the product in half. It is enough to make additions through the row. This continues until the height of the headdress is measured.

Now the fabric is visually divided in half, and the halves are knitted separately from each other. It is important not to make a sharp angle at the back of the head. This can be avoided by closing one loop at a time on the split side. 1 stitch per row is enough.

If the hood is knitted with a pattern, then it is necessary to correctly divide the motif. When you have to sew the parts together, you should get a whole picture.

The length of the parts is equal to the depth of the headdress.

We close the loops of the last row, fold the product in half and sew.

This concludes the short lesson on knitting a hood from the neckline.

Hoods for the family

A stylish men's cardigan or sweater with a hood looks complete and extraordinary. A separate MC for knitting the element is not needed; it is done using previous technologies. For a man, you shouldn’t settle for a strict look, because for the holiday you can knit a hooded hat in an unusual version.

It won’t be difficult to choose a bonnet model for a girl. Knitting - from columns to openwork flowers. The girl will be delighted with the hood romantic style or in the form of an animal. Examples of photos for selecting models:

Models for adults and children

To replace a scarf and complete the chosen look, hoods are knitted for the whole family.

Women's openwork blouse with hood

The creativity of the model is given by:

  • material for knitting – ribbon yarn;
  • loose silhouette - suitable for girls and women;
  • The hood is the highlight of the summer product.

The model can be knitted in two versions. For young girls, a shortened one is recommended - the length is above the waistline, and for older women, the length is kept along the hips.

The hood is tied to the neck and is made in the same pattern as the blouse. Color and pattern are selected according to individual preference.

Bunny hood for adults and children

The technique of knitting a “hare” hood is performed in the classic version, but finished product tie on bunny ears. To design them, a ready-made diagram is used.

The wide end of the ears must be tied with thread before sewing. IN otherwise, the ears will not protrude above the headdress and will merge with it. The child will be happy if the mother wears the same model as his.

Owl model

Another original project is the “owl” hood. It will take longer to complete due to the number of parts. Shades of color are chosen so that the combination is harmonious.

The base is knitted in the traditional way, and then the details. For the owl we will need to knit the ears, eyes and beak. The parts are made separately and then sewn to the finished product. Tassels are made on the ears to make the owl's image look complete. If desired, the same tassels can be used to frame the bottom or sleeves of the product, if it is a blouse.

To reinforce the material, watch a video with detailed explanations of the technology of crocheting a hood.

Schemes for beginners

Everyone should have a warm blouse with a hood in their wardrobe, which will perfectly protect the body and head from the cold. Usually such a thing is worn in spring or autumn, when a hat is no longer needed, but gusts of wind force you to cover your head with something warm.

Decorate the neck beautifully knitted product can be done in different ways:

  • rubber band;
  • clamp;
  • decorative elements.

But only thanks to the hood, the product will be stylish, comfortable and practical. It can be knitted from the neck or from the top. It can also be made as an independent piece, combining a hat and scarf.

Let's consider how to knit a hood knitting needles according to the pattern from the neck.

How to knit a hood with knitting needles

In a knitted product, the front neck will always be deeper than the back neck. To prevent the hood connected from the neck from pulling up the shelf of the product, you need to try to equalize the depth of the neck. This can be done using shortened rows. For knitting, in this case, you will need knitting needles. The product can also be crocheted according to the scheme.

  1. Knitting begins with a set of loops that need to be picked up around the neck of the sweater.
  2. We continue the work with shortened rows: the first row after casting on the loops is knitted purl. Second row: knit 6 stitches after the placket and the knitting unfolds. Third row: purl all. The exception is the first two and last two knitting loops - this is the hood strap, which should be knitted in garter stitch. We unfold the work and knit the entire row with knit stitches. The new row begins with 2 stitches of the hood strap and 6 purl stitches. We unfold the work and knit 6 sts and a placket. The next row is completely purl.
  3. We continue to work with shortened rows: knit a bar and 12 stitches. after the plank. We unfold the work and knit the same 12 stitches, only purlwise. loops, and at the end - a bar. The next row is all knits. On the other side of the knitting we continue to make shortened rows: we knit placket loops and 12 p. We unfold the knitting and knit 12 stitches again. and a bar. The next row is knitted completely purl.
  4. We finish performing the shortened rows: knit the bar and 16 sts. We unroll the knitting and knit the same 16 stitches only with purl stitches, plus the loops of the strap. Next row: all knits. Next, on the other side of the hood, knit: placket and 16 sts. The work unfolds in a new row: 16 knit stitches and the bar again.
  5. To expand the hood, you need to make increases after the first two loops of the strap and before the last two loops of the strap. Add one crossed yarn over every sixth row, starting from the first row of knitting the hood.
  6. Knitting continues stockinette stitch, to the desired hood height.
  7. Having reached a certain height, you need to close all the knitting loops.
  8. Fold the knitting in half and, using a hook, connect both parts with half-stitches.
  9. Steam the resulting product.

Having completed the work according to the description proposed above, you received a product with one seam on the head. The main thing here is to make a high-quality seam and steam it properly.

How to knit a hood in a different way- let's look at it in more detail. There is a detailed master class.

Hood knitted according to the heel principle

Beginners can also master knitting such a product, but to do this they need to try very hard and be extremely careful. It is advisable to try knitting your own socks before knitting a hood. In this way, you can understand the principle of knitting a heel, and knitting a hood, and have a good understanding of it. Let's record a detailed master class:

  1. We put loops on the knitting needles along the edge of the neckline and knit the first row with a 1x1 elastic band.
  2. Then we carry out the work in short rows, as in the previous case.
  3. When performing step No. 2, do not forget to add loops to expand the hood.
  4. Continue working with a 1x1 elastic band all the way to the back of the head.
  5. Divide the number of loops on the knitting needles into 3 equal parts. If this cannot be done, then the extra loops that remain after dividing, and there can be no more than two of them, need to be added to the middle part of the knitting. Label the parts with markers.
  6. Further knitting resembles the design of the heel. The loops of the side and middle parts are knitted, while the last loop of the middle part, at the end of the row, should be knitted with the first loop of the other side part.
  7. The work unfolds and the knitting continues on the wrong side of the hood: the middle part is knitted, and its last loop is knitted together with the first loop of the side part.
  8. The work continues in this way until all the loops on the side parts are finished, and only the middle part of the loops is in work.
  9. Try the product on. If its depth suits you, then you can finish knitting - the loops can be closed.

This form of hood, although knitted like a sock, is shaped like a head. And this means that in bad weather the wind will not blow under such a hood - this is important.

Hood with ears

This product is knitted just as simply as the previous one, using the heel principle. The loops are cast on along the edge of the neck of the sweater, knitting begins with shortened rows. The work uses face knitting. If you wish, you can choose any other knitting, with a diagram and description.

The product is knitted with facial loops on the front side to the back of the head. The loops on the knitting needles need to be divided into 3 parts, and it would be better to use 4 knitting needles for work: three of which will have loops, and one will be working.

Further knitting resembles knitting a heel on a toe, with decreasing loops in each row. When only the middle knitting needle with loops remains in work, and there are no loops on the other two, then the knitting can be closed.

In this model, you can tie the hood with a strip of braids - it will turn out simply cute.

Ears are knitted separately and then sewn onto the finished product. To work, you need to cast on 15 stitches on the knitting needles and knit 12 rows in purl stitch. To make the curves characteristic of the ears, you need to decrease one loop twice on both sides.

You need 4 parts for the ears. The finished parts are connected in twos using a hook. The cavity between them is filled with padding polyester.

Beautiful ears are sewn to the finished bonnet, and the hood, in turn, is sewn to the jacket.

Varieties of pattern and knitting

You can use any pattern to knit a hood.. The product looks good if it is knitted in the same knitting pattern as the sweater. If you want to highlight the hood itself, you can knit it with a different pattern, or use threads of a different color or hook for knitting.

Using a hood as an example, you can knit a separate hood-hood product.

The job is the same, but it's much easier to do. After all, you don’t have to knit shortened rows, and you don’t have to pull all the knitting while working. There are only hood loops on the knitting needles and in work.

A knitted sweater can be complemented with another hood option: scarf - hood.

The threads for such a product are chosen to be wool or half-woolen, and the size of the hat is taken as the basis, only when knitting it needs to be increased so that the fabric does not fit tightly to the head.

Another option: scarf - collar or scarf - pipe

The modern name for such a knitted product is snood. It cannot be said that it is similar to a hood, but its functions are the same: to provide comfort and give warmth to the body in the cool season.

Snood– a modern and stylish wardrobe detail. If you tie wristbands to it, you get a fashionable set.

You can crochet the hood. You can find a lot of information on this issue on the Internet. In addition to the description and diagram, you can attend a master class using a crochet hook.

Description of knitting a sweater with a hood from the neck

  1. Along the edge of the neck of the finished assembled product from the front side, cast on the required number of loops. Using a knitting needle, fasten the working thread at the beginning of the row and make a knot.
  2. The next 2 rows are knitted in stockinette stitch.
  3. Continue knitting in short rows to create a classic hood. The pattern is simple: when knitting the front row, do not bring it to the end, leaving the last loop. At this point, the knitting must be turned, yarn over, then knit a purl row, and unfold again without finishing one loop. This creates two side parts that are knitted one after the other.
  4. The side loops close when the piece reaches the desired length.
  5. When knitting the middle part of the hood, you need to pick up the side loops and finish decorating the hood with an English elastic band.

The uniqueness of this knitted item is that it combines a scarf and a headdress that will protect your head, ears, neck from the cold wind, and your hair from precipitation. A scarf-hood will add a fashionable touch to your everyday look, but before you start needlework, it’s worth knowing a few nuances. It is better to knit such a product with a lapel so that it fits better on the face; The loops should not be too close to each other, and the loops on the hood should be added or decreased smoothly.

  1. For the scarf-hood, choose warm threads (wool), and use the size of the hat as the base, but you will have to increase the measurement a little so that the product does not fit so closely.
  2. Cast on the knitting needles the required number of loops, based on the calculation on the knitted sample (use a 10 x 10 square for convenience). Next, knit an elastic band 3-5 cm wide, and then a rectangle, choosing any pattern, alternating the front rows with the back rows.
  3. When finishing the fabric, you need to divide the edge into three parts, two of which are knitted in a mirror like a scarf, and the third is closed with a safety pin.
  4. The final stage involves assembling the parts of the hood, the seam is made with the same threads using small stitches. You can decorate the ends of the scarf without any problems; tassels, pom-poms, fringes are suitable for this - anything to make the edge look beautiful.

Women's pullover with a hood tied from the neck

In this case, the work will not be difficult, see for yourself:

  1. First, the main parts of the product are knitted: back, front, sleeves.
  2. Then they start tying the neckline from the front side, the loops are cast on circular knitting needles.
  3. Knit the fabric according to the pattern, not forgetting to smoothly decrease one loop in every second and fourth row.
  4. A few centimeters before the end, they begin to knit the elastic, and when the height of the hood reaches the desired level, the loops are closed. The fabric is folded in half and the edges are carefully sewn to complete the knitting.

How to knit a snood on your head and wristbands with knitting needles

Among knitted items, the snood represents the most original category. By appearance it resembles a scarf-collar or a scarf-pipe. A convenient accessory provides comfort and warmth in the cool season. The snood remains a stylish wardrobe detail, and together with matching wristbands, a fashionable set is created. If it is intended for winter, then the yarn should be warm, and for the off-season, acrylic or thread containing wool (20-30%) is suitable.

  1. To work, you need to take circular knitting needles, cast on the required number of stitches, knit the first row to close the knitting.
  2. Next, knit the fabric according to the pattern and close the last row.
  3. The edge on both one and the other side of the snood is knitted separately. To make the top of the scarf-collar look attractive and frame the face beautifully, it needs to be slightly narrowed when tying it.

Warm knitted item For a child, it is a must-have wardrobe item. The hood, which protects the child from drafts, helps to make it even more necessary. An addition to a knitted item will be a guarantee of comfort, and for kids who do not like to wear hats, such models are a good find.

  4. As you work, you need to periodically add loops along the outer edge. Tie to the desired height, close the loops, sew the edges of the finished hood.

I’ll try to explain how I knit hoods.

I cast on the required number of loops around the perimeter of the neck,I knit 1-2 rows completely, then shortened rows:first one half of the front neckline,then I move along the back neckline to the second part of the frontand again I knit shortened rows

You can see shortened rows

then I just knit an even fabric

This is what shortened rows look like - side view (marked in green)

Sometimes I knit decorative rows of 2-3 stitches in garter stitch,The width between the decor stripes is equal to 2/3 of the loops cast on at the back neck. I hope I wrote it clearly

Sometimes I make increments occipital part(very rarely).
Next I knit to the desired length. I close the loops of the side parts of the hood, leave the middle ones open, you can not close them, but pick them up as you go, but I like them better with closed loops.

When the hood is ready, I tie it with an elastic band or some other strip.

Sometimes I knit a hood on topI knit a rectangle of the required length and width. Then I pick up the loops on the sides

Then I knit the desired length of the hood, in the lower part I knit in short rows

I'm sewing on the hood. I'm doing the tying.

"Sew-on" strip

then I stick the hook under the edge loop of the main fabric,I pick it up removed loop strip and stretch it under the edge loop of the main fabric.
I put the loop back on the needle. This results in a connection between the plank and the product.

I unfold the fabric and knit a purl row.

I knit the first and last edges.

Short rows

Short rows are used:
- when you need one side of the product to be longer than the other;
- or when you need to make the length of a product the same when connecting two patterns knitted fabric, giving different heights;
- when knitting horizontal darts;
- when knitting a round neckline;
- when lowering the armhole to obtain a smooth line along the edge of the fabric.

When knitting in short rows, each next row is shorter than the previous one.

The pattern is knitted in stockinette stitch with 40 stitches.

Without knitting 10 loops to the end, let’s turn the work to the other side.

In the next front row we do not knit 5 stitches to the yarn over,Let's turn the work to the other side.

Yarn over and transfer the outermost loop from the left needle to the right one.

We knit the row in the opposite direction.

In this way we knit as many short rows as you need.

The number of loops in shortened rows may vary. And also shortened rows can be knitted on both sides (on the wrong side and on the front side of the product). It all depends on what you are knitting and what result you want to achieve.
In this example, I knitted 4 such rows.

Let's now move on to the general row.Those. We knit all the loops in one row. We knit the yarn overs together with the subsequent loop (with the loop that goes after the yarn over).

Then we knit regular rows.
