How to make a doll from a birch log. Ryazan doll "Log" made of natural material

Rag folk dolls have long been made specifically for some kind of ceremony, for example, for the birth of a child, for marriage, a wishing doll, which made a wish, a doll for wealth and fertility. We will tell you how to make such a doll with your own hands.

Doll Veduchka or Leading to life, in ancient times was made by a woman in order to be a wise and understanding mother, understand the needs of her child, and bring him to life.

Like all Slavic dolls, amulets are made in a clean, needle-free way.
In no case should needles be inserted into the body of the doll.
Therefore, if you are basting or cutting clothes, do it not on the doll.
So, let's begin.
Previously, a birch log was used for the base of the doll, but given that I live in a metropolis, I have nowhere to get it. As a base, I use a piece of pressed paper pipe from a tablecloth, as an option, you can roll a magazine.

Then I take a red iris thread and wind my twist. All amulet dolls are necessarily wound with a red thread. You need to wind from yourself.
I tie in three places.

Next, you need to make a head.
To begin, measure a piece of fabric measuring 25 x 25 cm.
There are craftsmen who make the head out of wool, but this is more difficult and moths can start over time.
I make from cotton. You need to make a tight ball.

Find the center of the flap by folding it 4 times and pinching in the middle.

Now the center of the flap, put it on the center of the head formed from cotton wool, and, as if fitting with both hands, pull the fabric down.
Then tightly wrap your head to the base.

Next, we make the chest, according to the same principle as the head, only of the appropriate size.
I measured two flaps for the chest 15 by 15 cm.
The size of the flap depends on the size of the breast.
You can use any fabric, because. in any case, you will wind it under the main one.

We make an underskirt.
Measure a piece of fabric from the chest to the bottom + 2cm to the hem. Baste, gather the skirt into folds and tie in front. The underskirt should not be too lush.

Now you need to make hands. Veduchka has long arms, because they are in common with the child.
Measure the fabric and make a tight twist from the main fabric.
Wrap the twist tightly to the body.
Do not forget that in the amulet doll you need to wind everything away from you.

Pass through mom's arms.
You already know how to make a head.
Make the head of the appropriate size for the child and attach it to the legs.
We share hands.
You can wear a shirt.
The size of the flap on the shirt depends on your desire for its splendor and the length of the sleeve.
We fold the flap 4 times, make a cross-shaped incision, this is the neck.
And oblique notches under the sleeves.

Scraps of multi-colored matter;

Lace;

Sintepon;

Scissors;

Mouline threads (red);

First of all, you should do a "twist". To do this, take a patch cotton fabric 30x40 cm approximately, bend it in half. Next, you need to twist the "column" evenly and tightly. Its height will be 15 cm. We will tie the twist with red threads over the entire height. Then slightly round the head, taking a synthetic winterizer. We mark the neck with threads. Next, take a square of coarse cotton fabric (its size is 20x20). We put it on the head, fasten it along the neck line with a red thread. Now you need to make hands. We turn the corner a centimeter and a half, fold the edges to the middle. From the edge, at a distance of about 1 cm, make a hand for the toy and pull the fabric with a thread. After tying, the threads do not need to be cut. Next we make the waist. Tie tightly with a thread the place where we will have it.

Cloth

Let's make a skirt now. To do this, we take a colored flap 12x30 cm. Along the cut from above, you need to make a line and a small gathering. We wrap our doll with a rag inward with the front side, we tie it tightly around the waist with a thread. Then twist and straighten. Next, we will make an apron from canvas, pulling the threads along the edge. You can embroider some simple pattern for beauty. We place the apron in the center of the skirt, inside with the front side. With the help of a thread, we drag along the waist and then straighten it. Tie a piece of lace around the head. Then you need to make a scarf, for this we cut a triangle out of the fabric and tie it on the head. You will need to tie strings on your hands - after all, there will be more children who will need to be kept. Next we make a baby. First, we twist the column from a piece of coarse fabric. The size of the flap is 10x7 cm. We twist it tightly and tie it with a red thread. We cut out further a scarf from white fabric and tie it on the head. For a diaper, you need to take a 10x13 cm flap. Gently swaddle, bending the edges inward so that the threads do not stick out. We are also making a second baby. Now we give the children into the hands of the mother. That's how easy it is to create a doll-amulet with your own hands. Let's consider another option further.

Motanka

First, a few words about the meaning of this toy. A charm in the form of this doll was given to a child to play or hung over his bed. Often it was stuffed with fragrant medicinal herbs. With the growing moon, the chrysalis was sentenced to health, good immunity, and when the moon was waning, they ordered to get rid of problems and cure diseases. How was this do-it-yourself charm doll created? A diagram illustrating the process is as follows.

Let's prepare everything you need:

A piece of white or coarse calico), 15x20 centimeters in size (we will make a head out of it);

Colored patches:

  • approximately 18x18 pieces for pens;
  • 15x30 or 35 - for a skirt;
  • 13x5 - for an apron;
  • 15-20 - for the lower handkerchief;
  • a triangle with sides of 22 cm (from it will be the top scarf).

You will also need a bag filled with grass (thyme, wormwood, chamomile, oregano, mint). Its size is approximately 4.5x6 centimeters. To wind the toy, you will need threads (cotton, wool, linen - any), for a cross on the face - colored threads (cotton or floss). Optionally, you can take more lace, braid or any ribbon for decoration.

Create a toy

We wrap the bag and tie it into a rectangle of white fabric. To wrap a cross around your face, you need right hand draw the thread through the head vertically, from front to back, fixing the beginning of the thread with your finger. Then it needs to be fixed by wrapping it around the neck. Then we lay out the thread in parallel, winding from back to front. Lay the same thread horizontally. You need to fix it in the same way - around the neck. Then lay out another color, wrapping the head with another thread, parallel to the previous one. It will be beautiful if the threads lie side by side. Next, dress the toy in the bottom scarf. We fix it, wrapping it again with a thread. Next, we will make handles, making a flap several times. It is better to wind them to the doll crosswise. The skirt can be assembled with a needle on a thread, or you can simply attach it to a toy. Then we also fix the apron, knit the top scarf. At the end, we will tie the doll with a belt. This is how dolls-amulets were created before with their own hands. The tutorial in the article shows how easy this process was.

Charm dolls

Charm - an amulet or a magic spell that saves a person from various dangers, as well as an object on which the spell is spoken and which is worn on the body as a talisman.
The amulet doll is an ancient, mysterious and mysterious symbol of the Slavs. In ancient times, a doll was not just a toy, but a talisman and an essential attribute of various rituals. The age of the most ancient doll, found by scientists at the excavations of graves in the Czech Republic, is 40 thousand years.
Amulet dolls protect the house, children from dark forces, quarrels, illnesses, the evil eye. The dolls are well taken care of. They are given a special place in the house, put in a red corner, hidden in a chest, put in a dowry. Each doll has its protective meaning and is associated with the main significant things and events in the life of a Russian person - with the Kin, Family, Home, Happiness, Health, Prosperity.
In modern home rituals, the doll serves to align the energy-information, psycho-energetic field of the whole family. As an esoteric and meditative object, it gives a person confidence, balance, a sense of security. The doll with its presence gently creates a good emotional background.
When a doll appears in your house, you will immediately feel how the atmosphere in it will change. It will bring comfort and warmth. And most importantly, the inner world begins to change for the better, and behind it, life completely!

In Rus', amulet dolls were made from improvised material - wood, fabric, thread, straw, bones. Each doll was made for a specific purpose, had its own name, its own history, its own rite of preparation. For example, the doll "Krupenichka". It is based on a canvas bag with buckwheat, decorated with threads and fabrics. Such a doll lured prosperity into the house, promised a good future harvest and an increase in the family. It used to be believed that if a “Kuvatka” or “Nanny” hangs over a child’s crib, then it drives away this evil force. Two weeks before the birth of the child future mother placed such a doll - a charm in the cradle. When the parents went to work in the field, and the child was alone in the house, he looked at these little dolls and calmly played.

It is known that doll dresses were sewn not just like that, but with meaning. The outfit should always have a red color - the color of the sun, warmth, health, joy. And they also believed that it has a protective effect: it protects against the evil eye and injuries. The embroidered pattern that once decorated the doll's outfit was also not accidental. Each element contained magical meaning, and the pattern was supposed to be in the face of the doll, to protect the child. The word "pattern" meant "prize", i.e. "watching". Therefore, on the doll dress, as well as on the costume of an adult, they embroidered: circles, crosses, rosettes - signs of the sun; female figurines and deer - symbols of fertility; wavy lines are signs of water; horizontal lines - signs of the earth, diamonds with dots inside - a symbol of a sown field; vertical lines - signs of a tree, eternally living nature.
Some dolls were made not only for themselves or for their loved ones, but also "for ransom". You can’t buy such dolls, they will lose their strength, but it’s easy to buy them back. The main thing is to choose with your soul from the mass of dolls exactly the one that is yours! So that when you see this doll, you feel that it is yours, that you already know where to put it or put it. Only then will this doll be a talisman for you. Well, in the place where this doll lay, they put a ransom - money, goods, food.
A log doll is a talisman for the family. The basis of the doll is a birch log, which is a symbol of male power. All details female image tied to a log with braids, ribbons without the use of needles.

It is interesting that Slavic dolls (however, like some other peoples of the world) have one salient feature. These dolls have no face.
More precisely - the face of the doll can be knitted with some traditional pattern,
threads, natural materials. But faces cannot have eyes, mouth, nose.
It was believed that such a doll would not allow an evil spirit to inhabit itself and create evil around itself, and besides this, such a doll cannot be a double of a person, and with its help it will not be possible to harm a person.

ritual dolls

The Russian land is rich in rituals, and not only Russian. On all continents, all peoples perform peculiar rituals, in which dolls are participants. Ritual dolls were revered and placed in a hut, in a red corner. They had a ritual purpose. It used to be thought that if there is a hand-made doll “Fertility” in the house, then there will be prosperity and a good harvest.

The doll "Kupavka" is a ritual doll of one day, which existed in the Ryazan, Tula, Vladimir and Kaluga provinces. “Kupavka” personified the beginning of bathing. She was floated on the water, and the ribbons tied to her hands took human illnesses and hardships with them - such importance was attached to the cleansing power of water. This doll of the holidays of Agrafena Kupalnitsa and Ivan Kupala. The procedure for making "Kupavka" is very simple. Two sticks different lengths tie crosswise. On the top of the cross they strengthen the head of light fabric stuffed with rags, the hands of the doll are covered with the same cloth. Fix the fabric on the neck, arms and belt of the doll. Tie the straps of a sundress made of bright fabric. They put a skirt, a scarf on the doll, tie a belt, and tie ribbons of fabric on their hands. Since this doll is summer, it is customary to decorate it with grass, fresh flowers, green twigs.

The ritual doll “Maslenitsa” was made of straw or bast, but a tree was always used - a thin trunk of a birch. Straw, like wood, personified the exuberant power of vegetation. Clothes on the doll should be with a floral pattern. In the Tula province, the Maslenitsa doll was human-sized, made of bast or straw. It was fixed on a wooden cross. The doll was decorated with ribbons, artificial flowers. On her hands they put dishes used in the preparation of pancakes, hung ribbons, tying which people made wishes. These ribbons, in order for wishes to come true, had to burn down with the doll. “Home Shrovetide” is a doll that existed in the Tula province. She was called the daughter of Maslenitsa or her younger sister. It is a small, 20 - 25 cm high, straw or bast doll with a white rag face. “Home Maslenitsa” symbolized strong prosperity and healthy offspring of a young family. She was considered a strong amulet of the home, fulfilling the precepts of the owners of the house. They kept this doll in a red corner or at the entrance to a dwelling. On one of the days of the holiday pancake week when young people came to their mother-in-law for pancakes, this doll was put up in windows or yards. According to tradition, the bride and groom were greeted with “Home Shrovetide”.

In some provinces there was a Goat doll. It is based on a wooden cross, and the muzzle, horns, beard are made of bast and straw. “Goat” was dressed in a bright special dress and a sheepskin coat (or fur coat). Ritual items were attached over the sheepskin coat: pipes, hurdy-gurdies, tambourines, a horseshoe as a gift for good luck, bells, bells, wooden beads, earrings, gift bags, well-being wreaths with small red bags with cereal grains, a wooden block as a gift to a bachelor, as a reminder of the need to get married. The “Goat” doll was a symbol of vitality, and she had to bring this strength to the owner of the hut and his land, his field, so that bread would be better born.

Ash doll - was given to young people at a wedding. This is an ancient symbol of procreation, an intermediary between those living on earth and the kingdom of the dead. The ash doll is, as it were, the spirit of the ancestors, addressed to the descendants.

I must say that the people have always attached importance to the health of children and families. So some ritual dolls were healing. This is Kozma and Demyan. They were made from medicinal herbs: yarrow, chamomile and other herbs. There is such a legend. Two brothers lived in Rus' - the weather. They were disinterested. These brothers treated people and did not take money or food for treatment. But one day one of the brothers took some food for work. Another brother was very offended by him and asked after death to bury them in different places but the people judged in their own way. After all, food is food for existence, not money, and therefore they were buried together. For good deeds they were elevated to the rank of saints. Therefore, they used to make dolls in their honor and put them in a red corner so that they would bring goodness and health to the house.
Of course, ceremonial dolls cannot be considered a child's toy. After all, the traditional rag doll is faceless. The face, as a rule, was not indicated, it remained white. In the villages, they explained this simply by the inability to beautifully paint the face, and there were no such colors. But the meaning is much deeper. A doll without a face was considered an inanimate object, inaccessible to evil, unkind forces, and therefore harmless to a child. She was supposed to bring him well-being, health, joy.

Beregini are traditional Slavic amulet dolls.

The main task of the doll was to protect against adversity, it was supposed to protect all household members from diseases and evil spirits.

That is why the Slavs called such a doll a talisman or coast.

She accompanied our ancestors throughout their lives.

As already mentioned, Beregini are traditional Slavic amulet dolls. A rag doll made by a pregnant woman was placed in a cradle to "warm" the place for the unborn baby. When the child was born, the coastline remained in the crib and distracted evil spirits from the baby, and then became the first toy for him.

In order for the baby to sleep well, the mother read a conspiracy in front of his cradle: "Drowsy-insomnia, do not play with my child, but play with this doll."

Girls began to make their own dolls at the age of twelve. A beautiful and neat amulet testified to readiness for marriage.

The best specimens were put in a chest and became part of the girl's dowry. Giving her daughter in marriage, the mother always gave her a hand-made coastline, thus blessing her for marriage. The same charms were received by sons who went to the army or on a long journey.

Rag dolls were carefully kept and passed down from generation to generation.

What were the Slavic shore dolls Slavic rag dolls come in several types: play, protective and ritual.

Play dolls, as their name implies, served as toys for children.

The manufacture of ritual dolls was timed to coincide with major events folk calendar, for example, to the beginning of sowing or harvesting. A protective doll was made for major family events, such as a wedding or the birth of a child. They were supposed to protect and protect the family.

Today, in the age of plastic Barbies, we have almost forgotten the wonderful Slavic tradition making amulet dolls. But you can try to make a coaster with your own hands the way our ancestors once did.

It is made without the use of sharp tools such as scissors and a needle, so even a child can entrust some of the work. The kid will be interested in playing with a doll that he made himself.

The basic principles of making dolls-bereginy

In the manufacture of coasters, multi-colored patches from old clothes, pillowcases or sheets are used. Our ancestors believed that a doll made of old fabric, has great protective properties and better protects its owner.

Perhaps this is also due to the fact that the fabric at that time was quite expensive, and it was impractical to use it to make a toy. You can also use scraps from your old dresses and shirts.

If the coastline is made as a gift, it is still better to take new material. Only red threads were always used to fasten the flaps of fabric together.

Since ancient times, in Rus', red was considered a protective color. The threads are wound clockwise, an odd number of turns must be made.

Slavic rag dolls are traditionally made without the use of piercing tools. It is preferable not to cut, but to tear off pieces of fabric. The needle is also not used.

The traditional coastline is faceless. Our ancestors did this not by chance: it was believed that no evil spirit could move into a doll without a face and harm the owner of the amulet.

However, even in the absence of the main facial features, such as eyes, nose, mouth, each rag coaster had its own character. She was faceless and multifaceted at the same time.

Most Slavic rag dolls belong to the feminine gender, they personify the feminine.

Men were never allowed to make dolls, it was the duty of the mistress of the house and her daughters.

You can start making a talisman only with a good mood and a positive attitude.

During work, you need to think about the person to whom the coast is intended, wish him health and well-being.

Such a doll will have a powerful positive energy. We offer you several simple instructions for the manufacture of doll-amulet.

Puppet doll

For work we need:

  • two cuts of plain white fabric (the size of the future doll depends on their size);
  • a piece of red colorful fabric for a skirt (a square measuring 25x25 cm);
  • cuts of multi-colored fabrics for the chest, head, arms, apron and scarf;
  • cotton wool or synthetic winterizer for stuffing a doll;
  • braid, ribbons or lace for decoration;
  • threads for tying the parts together.

Operating procedure:

Let's start building the frame. We tightly twist the flaps of fabric so that we get columns.

The body post should be about 20 cm long. Then we bend it in order to designate the head of the pupa. Ultimately, the length of the body will decrease to 14 cm.

We twist the second flap of fabric in the same way as the first. Its length will be about 10 cm. We put the columns on top of each other with a cross and tightly tie them with a thread several times.

It is not necessary to break the thread, we will need it in the future. We take a square piece of white fabric and place the doll frame on it so that the head is in the center of this square. We cover the head with the free end of the fabric and tightly tie the structure with a thread.

We make the hands of the coastline: we slightly bend the fabric on both sides of the fabric and tie them with a thread. The distance from the edge should be about 2 cm.

We make breasts. Traditionally, it should be large, because the doll personifies a peasant woman who has always had many children. We lay out two identical squares of fabric on the table and place a piece of cotton wool in the center of each of them.

We form two balls and tightly bandage them. The size of each of them should be slightly smaller than the head. We attach both balls to the body. Now you need to dress the doll. We put on the face a piece of fabric for an apron, then a flap for a skirt. The fabric must be laid with the right side to the body of the doll.

We wrap the body of the amulet with a piece of fabric for a skirt, put the ends of the patch on top of each other. We tie the entire structure with a thread and turn the doll's clothes inside out.

There should be no gaps between the skirt and the chest, the fabric should lie evenly and neatly. You can make several layers of skirts or limit yourself to one. Let's decorate the head: we make a warrior and a handkerchief.

Our warrior will be a small piece of ribbon wrapped around the head. We use a small piece of bright colorful fabric as a handkerchief.

The coaster doll is almost ready, it remains to decorate it a little. To do this, we use ribbons, woolen threads, braid and lace. We tie the doll with a red ribbon. Amulet for loved ones is ready!

Linen coaster doll

Linen- natural material, which is easy and pleasant to work with. It is very gentle and pleasant to the touch. Try to make a coaster doll out of linen for your child.

For work we need:

  • flax tow;
  • red and beige threads made of natural wool or linen;
  • wavy ribbons of different colors;
  • a piece of cardboard, glue and scissors.

Operating procedure:

We rewind the required amount of light woolen threads, they will be doll hair. The length of the coaster braids can be any, but it is better if they are slightly shorter than your palm.

Cut off the required amount of flax. The length of the linen braid should be longer than the length of the braids of the doll. We tie the braids of our amulet into a bundle. This is done so that they do not get untied.

We place the threads in the very middle of the linen bundle and carefully mask them, the threads should not be visible.

We tie the linen tightly with a strong thread.

Then we turn the whole structure inside out. If the hair is too long, cut it off. Now you need to designate the head of the doll by tying a linen bundle with a thread.

We take another tow of flax and apply it to the middle of the first. We will get doll hands.

We fix both parts with a thread. With the help of a thread we make the waist of the coast. We do the same with handles. The doll is almost ready, it remains to slightly strengthen its frame.

To do this, we cut out a semicircle from cardboard, glue it so that we get a cone. Insert it into the doll's skirt. We decorate the hairstyle of the coastline with braids made of woolen threads, using a piece of fabric and ribbons we make an apron.

The image of the doll is completed by a red belt and a warrior - obligatory attributes of Slavic amulets.

The most important thing in making a doll-amulet is a positive attitude and good mood. Free your head from extraneous thoughts, be calm, confident and friendly. Then you will be able to create a charm for loved one who will be able to protect him from all misfortunes.
