What am I going to do at home all day? - I asked myself a question. But living in retirement was not boring at all.
The first time after retirement, when you do not need to go to work, and the whole day is at your disposal, can be described as "blissful doing nothing." You can go for a walk in the daytime, while to and from work I always walked along the dark streets. What an admiration you feel from the fact that you can walk slowly, assessing the architecture of the surrounding houses with a fresh eye! And you go to the grocery store when there are few people in it. And you cook dinner at home with feeling, really, with an arrangement in the morning or afternoon, and not at nine o'clock in the evening.
Having enjoyed this period of free life, then I want to think about further useful, pleasant, informative and not boring pastime, so that it would not be excruciatingly painful for the years spent aimlessly.

Begin new life retired is best with drawing up a plan of their actions, with a list of what they would like to do or do regularly. Get yourself a diary where to start and write down your plans. Of course, you can keep these records on a computer, but it's not so tasty.
For a diary, you need to buy a thick notebook in a beautiful cover, such that it is pleasant to take it in hand every time. The notebook should always be in a convenient, accessible place. It is advisable to set aside a certain time for recording, preferably in the evening, when all the work is completed, and you can evaluate the day lived.
So, on the first pages of the diary, we write a list of actions, works, events. The next step is to reserve a few blank pages for possible additions. Then every day you take a notebook and with pleasure write down in it how the day went, where you were, what you did, whom you met, who called, what you bought interesting, what you saw new on the street, what unusual things you cooked in the kitchen.
It is also important to record your health and mood. Also write down what difficulties, albeit small ones, had to be overcome to complete a task and achieve a goal. What interesting information we received and how. What an idea suddenly came up. What is your attitude to what you see or hear.
If something interfered with what was planned for today, give analysis and advice to yourself for the future. It's never too late to work on yourself.
Each entry must be dated. You can add basic weather information to the date.

When we brought my very elderly father-in-law to our dacha, he asked: "Give me a job, I cannot sit idle." I had a list of things to do at home or on the ground. I gave him a list, and he chose the job he could. For example, I made a wooden shelf for hats, caps and panamas.
This pensioner clearly did not like to be bored. Former defender of the Leningrad front in old age he actively participated in the creation of the school museum of military glory, in its design and filling with documents. At the age of 89, he wrote the work Drawing Perspectives of Objects, which I published on this site. And although in our time, if there is computer programs of three-dimensional modeling, the graphic method of construction on paper is not very relevant, the very fact of active mental activity of a pensioner deserves respect.
My mother-in-law, at a very old age, also complained that there was absolutely nothing to do, that she did not remember whether she had dinner, whether the nurse came, etc. I advised her to write everything down in a notebook, so the time is busy, and it is not necessary to memorize.
My husband made a to-do list for himself before retirement. When employees asked what he would do at home, he replied that the minimum program was drawn up for three years in advance.
What to do with your day? For a woman, this issue is easier to solve. I will not consider the case when there are children and grandchildren in the family besides you. In this case, there is always a lot to do. But if you are only two pensioners, or you are all alone ...
In any case, cleaning the apartment remains a necessary task. You need to do this work so as not to harm your health. And of course, grocery shopping takes time.
You can cook delicious food, having free time, with pleasure, mastering new recipes or using proven ones.
It should not be considered that the kitchen and household are only women's business. In our home, it is the husband's responsibility to monitor the availability of sugar, flour, tea and coffee, as well as to replenish these supplies. We rarely buy bread at the store. We bought a bread maker, but the husband always bakes the bread. Quite affordable business for a retired man... You can also use your husband's time to help clean the apartment.
Keep a close eye on the official information for your area. Are carried out free holidays for all comers, the annual Day of the Elderly, there are free circles for the elderly. Now in many places there are health groups for the elderly, Nordic walking groups with sticks. Participation in such events will allow you not only to replenish your photo album, but to write your own article about your impressions, as well as meet new people.
A very useful activity for retirees is to start learning a foreign language. It doesn't matter that you are not going to live abroad. Learning a language trains memory, preserving it until old age.
There are free online courses on the Internet, if you wish. For training, read the news on the Internet in a foreign language. On social networks, you can find study groups and get in touch with them.
Here's another great lesson for a pensioner... Your children have left and live in another place, but the guitar or button accordion they do not need remain.
Start from scratch to learn to play the accordion using a tutorial. It will be difficult, but the first successes will bring satisfaction, write about this in your journal and praise yourself.

If you do not have a plot outside the city, visit the parks in the city in summer, take a series of photographs of nature, birds, catch the good moments of the life of the townspeople. Sit on a bench for relaxation, perhaps a pleasant companion will sit next to you, you will start talking and start communicating in the future. Do not be afraid of new meetings, they enrich with life stories.

It's never too late to learn. Create your own personal curriculum or reading program and start filling in the missing gaps. If you feel that you are still full of strength, then you can still work hard. Was your previous job a burden to you? Learn a new profession. The main thing is that it brings you joy, even if it does not pay so well. You can find work from home or part-time. Search job sites or newspaper advertisements for suitable jobs. You can almost certainly find a job to your liking.
Pros. Work will make you feel that you are bringing benefits to society, will provide you with a smooth transition to a new life and income level, and will help maintain the quality of life.
Physical activity
Getting out of the long-standing schedule that you adhered to when you worked, a decrease in physical activity can quickly lead you to gain extra pounds and the acquisition of a whole bunch of diseases. Make it a rule to start your morning with exercises, sign up for a pool, a health group, and take long walks every day. Get a pedometer: doctors advise you to take 10 thousand steps a day to feel good.

If you are a passionate person and even know how to do something with your own hands, you can be considered happy! Do something that was sorely lacking in time before. Maybe since childhood you had a dream to learn how to draw with pastels, paint in oils, watercolors, or do batik? Or did you want to learn how to play a musical instrument, or sing in a choir? The field for creativity is endless: sewing, knitting, embroidery, felting from felt, weaving from beads, straws, vines, birch bark, wood carving, making beads ... How to learn all this?
