The first Monday after Easter: what you can and cannot do, signs. It is possible that Monday after the celebration of Easter will become a day off Day off after Easter on Monday

Easter 2018 in Ukraine falls on the first week of April. The holiday is approved as a state holiday, therefore it provides an additional day off.

Traditionally, Easter falls on a Sunday. In 2018, it fell on the first week of April, if you do not take into account the fact that the month begins on Sunday. The date of the holiday is April 8th.

Despite the fact that officials promised to reduce the number of festive days, the holidays for Easter 2018 remained.

Who and how will rest

Officially, it will be possible to rest on Monday, April 9, as the holiday itself falls on a weekend - Sunday. According to individual schedules, representatives of the healthcare sector and law enforcement agencies can work.

Private companies also reserve the right to influence the number of days off for employees.

Many European countries start celebrating Easter on Good Friday. On this day, no one goes to work in Austria, Germany, Portugal, Estonia.

But a number of countries celebrate this day, from Good Friday to Monday inclusive. Four official days off were received in Montenegro, parts of Spain and Australia.

In Cyprus, they also rest on Tuesday after Easter. And in Georgia they start celebrating from Thursday and end on Tuesday inclusive.

The first Monday after Easter is considered by many to be a weekday. The holiday passed, the bells rang, we stood the solemn service, greeted friends and acquaintances with a triple kiss and a joyful exclamation: “Christ is risen!”, We exchanged colored eggs ... Is it time to return to a normal working rhythm? But no! The joy of the bright holiday is so great that it lasts as much as 40 days, the most significant of which are the first 8 - Easter Sunday itself and the whole week following it.

Orthodox traditions

Monday, following the bright spring holiday, has many names. He is both Polivalny, and Volochebny, and Paschal… But above all, Light, that is, sanctified by God; full of rejoicing at the resurrection of Christ and the victory of life over death.

On this day - as well as throughout the week - services are held according to a special Easter rite:

  • instead of the usual prayers, the melodious reading of the topar sounds;
  • no weddings or funeral services are performed;
  • the royal doors in temples and churches remain wide open day and night, symbolizing Heaven open to believers;
  • on the lectern, arthos, sacred bread, is waiting in the wings - on Sunday it will be broken into pieces with a prayer and distributed to all those present;
  • after the Liturgy, a religious procession is performed, during which the parishioners carry lit candles in their hands, and the ringing of bells is heard in the air.

The sound, by the way, is not simple. According to custom, during Bright Week, anyone can climb the belfry and strike the bell, simply by asking the priest for blessings.

Easter week is a time of joy, not labor and worries

Is it possible to work on the Monday after Easter? Let's put it this way: it is desirable to free this day from routine chores and dedicate it to God. For example, before the revolution, when Orthodoxy was the state religion, the entire Easter week remained festive. The people had time to visit the church, pray at home, and communicate from the heart, charged with a good mood. There was enough time for everything!

But now we have a secular state, and the opportunity to take a day off is not always issued. How to be? With a clear conscience, do your duty, because labor does not turn into a sin, as long as you treat it reasonably. No one will blame the employee for diligence, because, having settled in the service, he assumed certain obligations to the employer.

Do not turn your tongue to condemn the hostess, who devoted an hour or two of Bright Monday to household chores. Life, alas, is an integral part of our life. If, after yesterday's feast, a mountain of dirty dishes remained in the kitchen, rivaling Everest, and sloppy guests brought dirt into the rooms, but at the same time you doubt whether it is possible to clean up on Monday after Easter? - pray and get down to business. You can't live in disorder all week!

But try to do without acute bouts of workaholism: do things today, postpone non-urgent ones “for later”. And be sure to allocate time in your schedule to attend church, then there will definitely be no sin on you.

Our grandparents rarely could afford a day off.

Monday after Easter: what not to do in any case:

  • to lose heart and indulge in gloomy thoughts;
  • scold;
  • devote the day to other things, leaving aside prayer;
  • get drunk;
  • to overeat, rewarding oneself for fasting, is harmful both from the ecclesiastical and medical points of view.

Some are worried about whether it is possible to get a haircut on the Monday after Easter. There is no direct ban on this action in church canons. Rather, the same rule applies here as with household chores, calling on believers during Bright Week to indulge less in vain earthly worries and think more about the soul. Can you postpone your visit to the hairdresser? Do it. Not? Feel free to go.

folk rites

Returning from the service, our ancestors hastily collected the remaining colorful eggs and consecrated Easter cakes into a bundle and went away from home: godchildren carried gifts to their godparents, grandchildren to grandparents, and husbands simply walked “with a detour” to friends and acquaintances, congratulating everyone on holiday.

Only housewives were supposed to stay within the four walls in order to properly greet relatives, acquaintances or participants in a fun Volochebny rite, reminiscent of Carols, who looked at the light. It was performed mainly by young guys who, with songs and jokes, went from house to house, glorifying the hostesses for their beauty and diligence, and receiving treats from the festive table in return.

Often the Volochebny rite was performed by wandering buffoons

But unmarried girls had to be on their guard that day. The guys who played out strove to douse the fellow villagers with water, and the prettier the young lady was, the more splashed jugs she got. But no one was offended: our ancestors believed that the water of Irrigation Monday would endow the girl with beauty and health, and at the same time predict a successful marriage. So don't be scared if someone nimble predicts a happy family life for you this spring!

True, given that in the Calendar of Great Lent in 2018, Bright Monday falls on April 9, in retribution for a good prediction, the beauty will have to click her teeth from the cold in soaking wet clothes. But is it worth it?

Zealous housewives did not miss the opportunity to douse poultry and cattle with Monday water - they will be healthier.

Weather signs

Thoughts about the harvest never left the peasant. So on Monday after Easter, signs advised the plowmen not to yawn, looking around. The sky, birds, rain - everything could tell whether to expect hunger or abundance this year.

  • If the sky is clear and the weather is calm, it will soon begin to rain.
  • What is Watering Monday, such will be the summer.
  • If the birds behave quietly and do not sing, the frosts will still make themselves felt.

In April 2018, there are no public holidays in Russia that would become a reason for additional days off. But this does not mean that the production calendar approved by the government for 2018 did not affect April in a special way. The May holidays were reflected in it, and in some regions an additional day off appeared, which is indirectly connected with Orthodox Easter. Weekend schedule for April 2018: how we will rest this month, how May Day affected the weekend in April, what additional days off are available in some regions of Russia.

How did the May holidays of 2018 affect the April weekend schedule

The last working week of April in 2018 will be six days. This is the first "six-day" this year, during the year there will be two more such weeks. We will work six days in a row, from April 23 to April 28, in order to then leave for four consecutive days off: from April 29 to May 2. These are the days from Sunday to Wednesday.

Thus, the May holidays of 2018 will actually begin in April. The Russians will need to work an extra working day on the 28th of the current month, after which they will go on a fairly long vacation.

By the way, Saturday, April 28 is a shortened pre-holiday working day. The work shift will last seven hours instead of eight.

How we relax in 2018 at Easter

This coming Sunday, April 8, Orthodox Christians celebrate the main Christian holiday - Easter. There are no additional days off in Russia in connection with Easter, especially since this holiday always falls on a Sunday anyway.

Actually, even the very name of the last day of the week indirectly goes back to Easter - the day of the Resurrection of Christ.

According to the Constitution, Russia is a secular country; no religion should be given preference by the state. It is enough that the only religious holiday that has the status of an official holiday throughout Russia is a Christian holiday. It's about Christmas on January 7th. Recall that on this day we always rest precisely because of Christmas, and the weekends from 1 to 6, as well as January 8, are dedicated to the new year.

However, despite the fact that Easter itself falls on a day off, and no holiday transfers are used, there are several regions in Russia where Easter indirectly affects the holiday schedule in April 2018.

On the ninth day after Easter, not only Orthodox, but in recent years even non-believers, traditionally celebrate Radonitsa - the main day of commemoration of the dead in our country. In 2018, Radonitsa falls on April 17th. It always falls on a Tuesday.

It is customary to visit cemeteries on Radonitsa, for this, transport work is specially organized on this day, etc. And some regions of Russia used their right to establish an additional day off on their territory and declared Radonitsa a day off on their territory.

These regions include the Stavropol Territory, Penza and Saratov Regions. April 17, 2018 is a public holiday in these regions.

How many days off in April 2018

In addition to Radonitsa, in these regions of Russia there is another subject of the Russian Federation, where in April there is an additional day off. This is the Republic of Kalmykia. Here non-working is April 5 - the date when the Constitution of the Republic, called the Steppe Code, was adopted.

In Kalmykia and the regions where April 17 is declared a non-working day, there will be ten days off this month.

In all other regions of the country, out of 30 days in April, 21 days are working days, and 9 days are days off. The postponement of days off in connection with May Day had no effect on this ratio. Despite the working Saturday on April 28, this month there was a day off on Monday the 30th.

Employers may soon have to give their employees another day off. State Duma deputies propose to make the first day after Easter Sunday a holiday, which will be called Bright Easter Monday.

The draft law No. 153075-7 “On Amending the Establishment of an Annual Non-Working Day on Monday after the Sunday of the Resurrection of Christ” religious holiday was submitted to the State Duma for consideration. The authors of the document were deputies from the LDPR party Yaroslav Nilov and Igor Lebedev. They propose to introduce the production calendar of the Russians is another public holiday.

Religious holidays in the production calendar

The new holiday for the whole of Russia, according to the plan of the deputies, should fall on the first day after Easter, and it can be called "Bright Easter Monday." In the explanatory note to the bill, the parliamentarians point out that Easter Sunday is considered their holiday and is celebrated by about 85% of the inhabitants of the Russian Federation. More than 10% of them not only celebrate Easter, but also observe all the requirements of the strictest fast in the year. In the text of the explanations to the initiative, in particular, it is said:

The introduction of the holiday of Bright Easter Monday will not only create conditions for satisfying the religious feelings and needs of believing citizens, but will free up time for useful and necessary activities in the family, among friends and acquaintances in the spring. It should be noted that in many countries of Western Europe, the Monday following the day of the Resurrection of Christ is a day off.

In addition, the authors of the bill recalled that the Russian regions have the right to independently establish additional holidays. Easter itself is an official holiday in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, so workers there rest on Monday, since it is a day off from Sunday. Also, additional days off are set in the Crimea, Tatarstan and Bashkortostan on the days of the Muslim religious holidays Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Adha.

As you want in the first, warm spring days to go to nature or wind up with an overnight stay in the country. Knowing that the next day it is unnecessary to rush to work in the morning, allow yourself to sit longer by the fire until the last rays of the sun and have a glass of cognac with friends, without fear that tomorrow you will have to drive and rush to work.

Bright Sunday of Christ, in fact, orders to stay in celebration, joy in the circle of family and loved ones. But what holiday, if you defended the night service, did not have time to sleep off during the day and have dinner at the festive table, how tomorrow you will again have to “dive into the lead ocean” of everyday life?

Thank God, Crimeans do not have such a problem on Easter.

Monday, April 9, 2018 is declared a day off on the territory of the Republic of Crimea, because Orthodox believers celebrate Easter the day before. The official name of the holiday is Holy Christ's Resurrection. Easter in 2018 falls on April 8, 2018.

The celebration of Easter in Crimea was established by the Decree of the Head of the Republic of Crimea “On non-working and holidays” N 32-U of February 2, 2018. According to the Decree, in addition to resting on April 9, 2018 in connection with the celebration of Easter Sunday, residents of Crimea will have three additional days off by the end of the year, timed to coincide with the religious holidays of the Holy Trinity Day (May 28, 2018), Oraza Bairam (June 15, 2018). ) and Eid al-Adha (August 21, 2018).

In connection with the above circumstance and the holiday, the Sevastopol residents had a question: will April 9, 2018 be a public holiday in our city?

Given that Sevastopol is a city of federal significance, and working hours for its residents are determined according to the production calendar of the Russian Federation, a decision on an additional holiday - Monday April 9, 2018 can be taken separately, and in this case it must be published on the official website of the city government . However, there is no such information on the official Internet portal of the local executive power. It is only said that on Monday, April 9, in the Cathedral of the Intercession from 8.00 to 10.00, Metropolitan Lazar of the Diocese of Simferopol and Crimea will hold a solemn service dedicated to the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ.

Considering that it will be a working day, not all Orthodox Sevastopol residents working in the morning will be able to take part in the service, which puts them in a discriminatory position in relation to the Orthodox Crimeans...

Regarding such disrespect for the local authorities to the traditions that have developed in Sevastopol, a heated discussion unfolded in social networks, initiated by Ivan Komelov.

He titled his message: “Easter “gift” from the governor!”

“In Sevastopol, for many years, Easter Sunday was considered a holiday. Despite the fact that in Russia church holidays are not state holidays, given the multinational culture, the regions are endowed with the right to independently decide on the choice of holidays. Therefore, Crimea and Sevastopol traditionally decided to declare the next day after Easter a day off!

This was the case until 2018.

And although the leadership of the Crimea has traditionally adopted the corresponding The most important decision, the governor of Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyanikov did not issue such an order! In any case, there is no information on the official website of the government, and all city enterprises work on Monday.

What was the reason for such an attitude towards the Sevastopol people is not known to me for certain. Either the governor considered that we rest too much, or Easter is not such a great holiday for him, but the very fact of such an attitude towards the inhabitants of the cradle of Christianity is very upsetting ... " - Komelov shares his disappointments, accompanying them with a cynical and rude, in our opinion, picture.

Comments OD “5 Defense of Sevastopol”

Without undertaking to interpret to whom exactly the author of the message (to whom we have no personal sympathy - editorial note) addresses his question, we completely agree with his arguments ... However, such inaction of the governor, who stubbornly does not want to sing the anthem of the city together with the townspeople, us not at all surprising.

The information and analytical publication “5th Defense of Sevastopol” cannot consider such an attitude towards the established Sevastopol traditions solely as a manifestation of inattention. It would look ridiculous in relation to the four times educated governor appointed to our city by the President himself.

We do not exclude that in this way the persons shaping the internal policy of the city “swing their administrative muscles”, demonstrate strength, making it clear to the townspeople "Who is the head in this house".

Such seemingly absurd actions that were not previously discussed with the townspeople, such as: the construction of a slide for rolling in hay at the Sevastopol shrine - at the foot of the monument to P.S. Nakhimov; conducting training of the Cossack formations of the city, in the same place on Nakhimov Square, during 18 days where from 13 to 31 April 2018 to 15 hours in a day, from 7 am to 10 pm, measures will be worked out prompt response during the event and the occurrence non-standard situations, etc.(which we will talk about in detail this week - editorial note); organization of a football fan zone in the same place; the program for celebrating the 235th birthday of the city, which Berkovich proposed to move to Russia Day, because football starts on June 14 (which, in his opinion, is much more important for Sevastopol residents - editorial note); a master class of football players in front of another iconic place in Sevastopol - the Chersonese bell officials - "manipulators" of public opinion develop and fix a reflex from the understanding of the local “natives” of a simple rule brought from the mainland: “who orders the music, he dances the girl ...”

In our analogy: "music"- federal targeted programs and the money allocated for them. "Dancing Girl"- Sevastopol and its inhabitants.

And here is the "owner":

As a result of studying and analyzing the actions of Dmitry Plemyannikov's team in Sevastopol, we see the following mechanism of social frustration of the population:

Citizens are simply ignored at first. Then, shaking the foundations, traditions and values that have developed in the city for decades, they are deliberately replaced with ridiculous, often outrageous "innovations", thereby demonstrating to the townspeople their inability to influence the decisions of the authorities even in small, current issues (for example, holding city holidays, - editor's note) . After that, the indigenous people are radically excluded from participating in the formation of the future city, which the “Varangians” obviously consider only as a territory “cleared” for the implementation of oligarch-oriented business projects.
