HOW BEAUTIFUL TO Sew A ZIPPER INTO A KNITTED PRODUCT

Master Class

In order for the zipper in the knitted fabric to look neat, not to “fold” or, conversely, not to tighten the edges, but to “stand” exactly in the fastener cutout or on the floors, first be sure to perform a wet treatment finished product. I always wash the knitted item and dry it on a flat horizontal surface, or in some cases hang it on “hangers” so that the details are stretched (depending on the characteristics of the yarn used) to avoid the risk of stretching with further use.

So, the product is ready and dried, we sew the zipper as follows:

  1. Pin each textile part of the zipper to the edge of the corresponding shelf

2. Sew with a needle along the textile part of the zipper on the front side of the product with a “machine” seam (= “seam back needle”)

Option 1.

This is the most rational way for fasteners that use a one-piece zipper. For example, a polo collar with a zipper, a zipper in children's overalls, in skirts, etc.

3.1.1. To decorate on the wrong side of the product, it is necessary to sew along the edge of the textile part of the zipper with a needle with a “overlock” seam - this will additionally fix the sewn-in zipper and partially “close” the fastener, “veil” the free section to the snake.

3.1.2. On the front side of the product, tie the edges of the fastener with a crochet hook or a pattern * 1 VP, 1 connecting item. in each chrome. P.*

Option 2.

The method of processing the edge of the fastener from the wrong side in products with a detachable zipper, i.e. in the presence of product shelves. This method is suitable if the wrong side is visible with the floors unbuttoned and where a more “closed” option is required - an analogue of a braid on top of the textile part of the zipper.

In this case, you can do this:

3.2. 1. From the seam formed by sewing (“machine” seam - item 2), crocheting the loops from under the stitches on the wrong side of the product, knit 1 row of RLS with the main working yarn

and 1-2 rows of dc, depending on the thickness of the yarn (= trim for a width of approx. 1.5-2 cm).

Sew on the resulting “inner” inlay with a needle, tucking the edges of the zipper inward.

On the outside of the product, crochet the edges of the zipper 1 row with a pattern * 1 VP, 1 connect. Art. in each next edge p. *

Or you can tie the front part, for example, with a hollow i-cord

How to sew a zipper into knitted sweater Detachable shelves with a zipper give the jacket modern look and make it more comfortable to wear. With this simple but practical clasp, you can create a high stand-up collar that will be easy to put on your head and at the same time fit your neck well. To make the jacket with a zipper look neat from the front and back sides, it is recommended to use a double bar for sewing it in. Another option for knitting will be the so-called hollow gum. You will need - two straight knitting needles; - tailor's meter; - yarn; - cotton threads to match the jacket; - contrast threads; - needle; - sewing machine; - scissors for removing the basting; - zipper on shelf height. When cutting a sweater, immediately accurately calculate the width of the right and left shelves in order to leave a margin for a knitted bar for sewing in a zipper. When calculating the cut elements, do not forget that there should be space between the future planks for metal or plastic teeth and the slider free play. Of course, a zipper of a suitable size should be prepared in advance. Be sure to knit a sample before making a zipper strap stockinette stitch 10 cm long. Measure the distance from the bottom of the jacket to the upper edge of the collar - this is the length of the future bar. Accurate calculations will help you correctly dial the loops along the edges of the product. Turn the work over and from the wrong side of the jacket, type loops for the bottom layer of the bar. Knit it using the front piece as a pattern. Close the last loops. Similarly, perform a double bar from the right edge of the shelf. All details must be worked out absolutely symmetrically! The placket should neither pull together the hem of the sweater, nor gather it into unattractive gathers. Open the zipper and insert the halves into the double placket. Baste the fastening fabric with a thread of a contrasting color from the bottom to the top. Open and close the swept lock - if it lays down correctly, you can sew the zipper to the sweater white with threads to match the jacket and fasteners. This can be done by hand with a blind seam or by machine stitching. Carefully remove the basting with nail scissors. A worthy alternative to a double bar is a hollow elastic band. It is no less convenient for sewing in a zipper on a knitted product. For elastic, calculate the required number of loops cast on according to the sample of the front surface. Multiply the resulting number by 2. For example: if there are 15 loops in a knitted sample 10 cm long, then for a hollow elastic band of the same length, only 30 loops should be dialed. In the first row of hollow gum, do the following alternations: 1 front loop; the next loop is removed untied. In this case, the working thread must be in front of the loop! In the second and subsequent rows of hollow gum removed loops it is necessary to knit the front. Loops knitted in the previous row, on the contrary, are removed untied. Follow the pattern until you reach the desired width. Start sewing the zipper to the jacket from the bottom of the work. Gradually release small sections of the hollow gum from the knitting needle. Insert the corresponding section of the fastener into the opened part of the bar. Sew open loops: the needle should pass through the front open loop through the fabric of the zipper and exit through the open loop on the wrong side of the product. Keep working until you have sewn on the entire zipper. In this way, you will carefully close the open edge of the hollow elastic and at the same time sew the zipper to the placket. You will only have to lay the final connecting line on the sewing machine.

How to sew a zipper to a knitted knitted product? In itself, sewing in a regular zipper is not a difficult job, but joining with knitwear requires patience. Sewing a zipper onto a tight-knit sweater is one of the most time-consuming tasks and sometimes intimidating for beginners. To be honest, experts also do not like to do this work, as it takes a lot of time. But since the lightning has broken, you still have to do it. How to sew a zipper with your own hands to make it beautiful and even? You will learn more about this later.

You will need:

  • Zipper along the length of the jacket

  • Tailor's pins
  • Ripper or scissors
  • Needle and thread
  • Machine needle No. 100
  • Double-sided / single-sided presser foot
  • Sewing machine

Description of work

Stripping lightning

Before sewing a zipper to a knitted sweater, you need to carefully rip off the old zipper. Be careful not to touch the fabric, otherwise there will be holes that will bloom and become larger.

However, if this happened:

Take a piece of adhesive fabric and glue it on the wrong side.

When sewing, machine stitching will secure this area and the fabric will not unravel.

Take a new zipper, if it turned out to be longer than the old one, then put a mark at the top to what level to sew it in along the length.

Fixing the zipper on the product

Pin one side of the zipper to the edge of the side of the sweater, pulling the zipper tape a little, and seating the side.

The mark at the top of the zipper should match the fold of the stand-up collar, cut off the excess, leaving an allowance for the hem of the zipper.

Basting Lightning

Baste the zipper to the product with running stitches:

Pay special attention to the stand collar area, fold the top zipper allowance up to the mark and slide it inside the stand. Secure the zipper with hand stitches.

Fasten the second side of the zipper and mark on it the places of the horizontal lines on the jacket. When fastening a zipper, they must match on both shelves.

Baste the second part of the zipper, taking into account the control marks on the zipper, and horizontal lines on the second part of the shelf.

Before sewing on the zipper, fasten the seam of the connection of the rack with the product. In some cases, when ripping off a zipper, it must be torn up.

Attaching a zipper

Attach the zipper using the double-sided / single-sided foot and threads in the color of the fabric: the first line is 0.2-0.3 cm from the zipper

The second line by 0.5 - 0.7 cm.

In places of horizontal lines where control points are fixed, do not remove the pins when sewing, this will ensure that the lines match exactly in the finished form.

Finishing

Sew on the second side of the zipper, check the alignment of the horizontal lines, including along the collar. Remove the basting threads, iron the fastener with an iron, through an iron ( cotton fabric) with moisture.

Use your new knowledge and your experience to replace a broken zipper without the hassle. Now you no longer have to turn to the help of specialists or look for information on how to sew a zipper. Having once tried to sew a zipper on a knitted sweater on your own, you will forever get rid of the problems associated with sewing a zipper to a knitted product.

My . I'm on Twitter. Look on Youtube.

I would be grateful if you use the buttons:

After the brag about filming in the "Deeds" program, mother rimston1 Rimma made us an order for knitting a blouse with a hood for her little son in a very cheerful color.
The blouse contacted, went to the owner and even already a report. I won’t describe knitting (in this new interface, the first version of the message was lost somewhere ... so I’m writing the second time quickly, to the point and without prefaces. Who are interested in the main parameters of the blouse they are)

In general, when knitting a sweater, into which, according to the idea, a lock should be sewn, along the edge (at a distance of about 1.5-2 cm) I knit a path from the purl loops on the front side of the product (i.e. in the purl row we knit one front loop, and in the front row we always knit the same loop on the wrong side). If the blouse at the time of viewing this MK is already connected to you, do not be discouraged. You can dissolve one loop along the length of the entire product and crochet up. If at the bottom of the product there is a 1x1 elastic band like mine, then just the fifth loop from the beginning of the row will be needed (edge, front, wrong side, front, purl, front, etc....)

What this method is good for (by the way, I thought of it myself and ask you not to accuse me of plagiarism), is that on the front side (thanks to the recessed wrong side loop) you can’t see the set row for the edge, and on the wrong side it forms a very comfortable chain of cast-on loops

Now we take circular needle 1-1.5 sizes larger than we knitted the main fabric (in my case, knitted 3rd, and I type on 4.5 knitting needles, fishing line 80 cm, ADDI-click). This is done so that the canvas does not shrink and looks neat. Further on the knitting needle we put on the half-loop of the facial chain closest to the edge. Like this:

We attach the thread and knit with front and back rows to the desired height (i.e. when the knitted strip is equal in height to the edge of the product):

Without breaking the thread, we lift the chain from the front side of the product by the extreme loops along the entire height of the product and close it in a circle.

We knit another 4-5 circular front rows (about 1-1.5 cm) necessary for sewing in the lock and close the loops with a hook. Take the hook bigger size so as not to pull the edge off again.

As you know, knitting is not just one of the many types of needlework, but also a very efficient way to update your wardrobe. But, as in any other business, there may be some difficulties. One of them is the problem of how to sew a high-quality zipper on your own quickly and easily in knitted product.

So, let's say that you knitted a beautiful thing and bought a zipper that matches it in color and size. It remains only to sew it into a knitted sweater. First of all, it is worth preparing the edge-slats. In this matter, it all depends on the model of your jacket and its pattern.

In our example, the central part of the front is predominantly knitted with the front surface, and, as you probably know, the edges are twisted in it. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen these edges with narrow strips.

How to sew a zipper into a knitted product with your own hands in MK

In this case, the straps are made with a double rubber band. In order for the elastic band not to tighten the canvas too much, you need to follow the advice given below:

  1. Since the selvedges on the shelves in our example were knitted, so to speak, classically (the first loop is removed and the last loop is purl), the edge eventually took the form of a chain. From this chain, we further collect on the front side of the loop for the strap (with a passing vyazka from each edge, two loops). In this case, the first loop must be knitted under both walls of this loop, and the second - only under the front wall.
  1. We pass to the next row (on the wrong side) and begin to knit already double elastic band(in this case, you need to alternate one front, remove one loop not knitted). In this way we knit four rows.
  2. In the fifth row, we close the loops, also alternating: two loops - according to the type of elastic band 1 × 1, and we knit the next four loops two together with the front broach method (that is, remove the front loop first, then the loop removed in the previous row and knit the wrong one, after which stretch through the removed front). If you close the loops on the bar in this way, its edge will never be stretched.

So, when both planks are prepared, we lay out our product somewhere on a flat surface. It is necessary to very carefully straighten and align the future blouse at the seams and sides. Planks must be set exactly butt.

So that in the future they do not disperse while sewing in lightning, you need to flash them, connecting them with oblique stitches. At the same time, we make sure that the edges remain butt.

Next, turn the jacket inside out. From the inside, we apply our lightning in the closed state, set it as evenly as possible: in such a way that the central axis passing through the teeth falls precisely at the junction of our planks. You can use a couple of pins for fixing.

Now, little by little, we baste the zipper with oblique stitches, starting from the bottom. Having reached the top, we adjust the final height of the lightning. Trim it if necessary.

Here we did it. Now it's time to sew on the zipper. Often this is done manually, because it is not known how the knitted fabric under the foot of the sewing machine.

The fastener should also be sewn on the wrong side of the work, starting from the bottom. In this case, the threads need to be selected as tone-on-tone as possible. We try to lay a beautiful and even seam. Moreover, the “main beauty” should shine on the zipper ribbon, but on the front side of the product, the stitches should be laid small and almost imperceptible.

Once you get to the top, the closed slider can prevent you from sewing any further. To do this, you can already lightly rip the note and lower the slider a little down to calmly finish sewing to the end. Thus, without haste, we sew a zipper on both sides.

A little advice: if you have a double collar (as in our example), you will need to additionally hem the edge of the collar to the neck, and its side edges need to be hemmed to the zipper itself. That's it!

How can I properly sew a zipper into a knitted bag?

Needlewomen of fashion love to create not only blouses, dresses or tops, but also many other little things, so to speak, for themselves. Therefore, we will dwell on how to sew a zipper into a knitted bag.

For work, you will need to buy a clasp that would match the color and size of the future handbag. Now take a crochet hook and make two straps that will match the length and width of the zipper. The color of the yarn for the straps should be the same as the yarn for the bag.

Next, sew a clasp to the knitted planks. Please note that the connected columns must lie on top of the tape on which the zipper is attached. Now the resulting structure must be connected to the lining. In order to make the work go faster, do not sew up the entire lining, but leave a small hole that allows you to carefully sew the fastener from the inside out.

After the work is done, you can sew the lining with the clasp to your handbag with simple stitches. You will find more detailed and visual instructions about this in the video below the article. All the best!
