2. Make a pattern
Draw it on a large piece of paper (whatman paper, wallpaper). It does not take a lot of time. The construction diagram is presented below. To help you need a pencil, a long ruler, compasses and scissors. If you have a large child, you can increase the size proportionally. 
3. Preparing the material
Base filler. Suitable memory foam (this is polyurethane with an admixture of hydrocarbons), coconut coir, holofiber, synthetic winterizer, latex. The base should be of medium hardness. For example, a clean coconut will not work (too tough). You can combine material. For example, a coir leaf with holofiber or padding polyester.
Side filler. Any loose material. Synthetic down, holofiber or down with a feather is perfect.
Fabric (cotton or flannel). If you want to decorate with decorative elements, remember about safety. Nothing sticking out, in which the child can get entangled, drag into the mouth or inhale (small details!).
4. How to work
Transfer the pattern to the fabric and cut 2 blanks. Use different fabrics, because the nest will be two-sided. Don't forget to add 1 cm each for the seams when you cut.
Sew the right sides of the workpiece. Leave a hole for padding on the bottom and sides. Turn and iron.
Sew the edge, backing off 2-2.5 cm. A ribbon will pass through the hole.
Now you need to separate (stitch) the bottom. To make this easier, cut out the center of the pattern, pin it into the center of your nest, and sew. For the same part, make a mattress, which then insert into the bottom. Sew it in several places if possible (it should sit firmly). For example, along the edge and horizontal seams every 15-20 cm.
Insert the ribbon into the hole and stuff the sides tightly with filler.
Sewing up the lower part. Fold over the edges and sew until the ribbon comes out. Tighten the sides and the cocoon is ready!
Do-it-yourself cocoon diaper for newborns
In this example, we will make a cocoon with a zipper (you can also use Velcro, buttons or ties). The child should be comfortable, so choose the material that is breathable and suitable for the season. It's very easy to make it!
1. Preparing a pattern
Draw it on paper and cut it out. Consider your child's size. Perhaps the standard version will be too small for you and you will have to increase the parameters.
2. Cooking fabrics. You will need about 1.5 sq. meter of fabric, which should stretch well and lightning 60 cm. If the child is already grown up, then add 10 cm of material for every couple of centimeters.
3. How to work
Fold the fabric in half and cut the attached pattern straight along the line, without leaving any seams. Make 2 of these details. Cut one of them in the central part along the length - this is the front part, where the lock will be.
Overlay all tissue sections.
Cut out the fabric for the collar (length 23 cm, width 7 cm) and for protection from the lock (length 61 cm, width 8 cm).
Sew on the lock, having previously secured it with pins. Along the right edge - to the top, along the left - 2 cm from the edge.
Sew the main edges, sew on the protection and collar.
